Re: Ask Nathan

Hi Nathan, in general, if a new author has his first book uploaded to the Kindle store, and it's selling well there and getting great reviews on Amazon, would this make you more or less likely to want to represent him? How would most agents feel about this, in your estimation? More specifically, I t...

Re: Future of publishing?

After three weeks on the site, I continue to really enjoy my time on Authonomy. My book is at #117 overall, and I still don't know if I'll work at climbing all the way to the editor's desk, but the amount of feedback and the camaraderie on the site has been priceless. I've gotten almost 150 comments...

Re: Ask Nathan

Hi Nathan, thanks for your time. I've researched an agent that I think could be a perfect fit for my first book. I'm considering querying this person with only four polished chapters ready for consideration, as well as a complete synopsis (though the first draft is written), so that I could give the...

Re: Future of publishing?

I took the plunge into Authonomy a week ago, Friday. It's been a really positive experience so far, for a number of reasons. I currently have the #1 most backed book over the last week , if you're curious. I've received around 70 comments on the work over the last week, and some of the comments were...

Re: Good article on how print will not die

His argument is a bit strange while he's saying that an electronic tablet from three decades ago didn't kill books. Well, yeah. But we've never lived in a time when millions of people own dedicated ereaders, and when that trend towards reading on electronic devices is on a huge upswing. Also look at...

Re: The iPad

This is great. Apparently the good folks at Apple are big fans of the dreaded adjective :-)

Re: The iPad

Personally I have zilch hassle with my laptop, whether it's getting around the house or getting around public. And she's not exactly tiny, either. I feel the same way. If iPad was better than my laptop, I'd want one. If iPad was better than a Kindle for reading books, I'd want one. If I could see u...

Re: The iPad

I really want to see how the iPad screen feels to my eyes when reading on it for a while. I heard someone else say today that backlit screens gave them no problem with reading. If it's easy to read on, then I'd have to at least consider the iPad.

Re: The iPad

jrector, I was checking out 'The Grove' on Amazon the other day. Looks good. Congrats. I can't see Amazon ever being a minor player in the ebook world. They've already got such a massive head start, and you know they'll be determined to stay in the lead. They also have so many loyal customers after ...

musicgirl wrote:I really like Your First Novel by Ann Rittenberg and Laura Whitcomb - it's more comprehensive, but has some great chapters on revising sentences and how to make your manuscript sparkle.
Oh yeah. That book is literally sitting in a pile next to me on my desk. Maybe I should finally check it out :-)

Re: Ask Nathan

Yeah, good for you. I'd love to see the Lakers-Kings rivalry renewed. I'll admit, I was really sweatin' it at the end there tonight! I'm also a Hawks fan by default, having grown up in Atlanta and watched guys like Dominique and Spud Webb when I was a kid. Maybe if your Kings don't do much this year...

Re: Ask Nathan

My Suns are up 62-47 on your Kings right now. Are you ready to surrender?

p.s. how do you beat the Lakers and Celtics and lose to the Grizzlies and Warriors over a stretch of four games?

Re: Recommendations: How to Books on Fiction Writing

Moses, I love your list! I would add Donald Maass' new book, Fire in Fiction . For a more experienced writer, I think it's even better than the Breakout Novel book. Thanks Katrina, I'll check it out. The night after I finished my first draft, I had an amazing dream in which I talked to Donald Maass...

Re: Ask Nathan

Hi Nathan, from a strictly practical point of view, I'm curious what you think the market is currently like for adult fantasy versus YA fantasy. What is the market like for new authors in these areas? For publishers? For the prospects of having a long and prosperous writing career? Thanks again.

Re: Recommendations: How to Books on Fiction Writing

Hm, why not a top ten list from Moses :-) I've read all of the following books and they were each very helpful to me: 1) "On Writing" by Stephen King. 2) "The First Five Pages" by Noah Lukeman. 3) "Self-Editing for Fiction Writers" by Renni Browne and Dave King. 4) &quo...
