Re: IBM nanotechnologists create smallest 3D map of Earth

Nathan,

I hadn’t thought of it that way. LOL. The article also says, “...they also carved out a 25-nanometer tall model of the Matterhorn. A nanometer, of course, is one-billionth of a meter, so that's a 1:5 billion scale nano-mountain.” I think I could climb that Matterhorn!

IBM nanotechnologists create smallest 3D map of Earth

This is amazing! IBM nanotechnologists have created a 3D map of the world that's so tiny, approximately 1,000 of these maps can fit on a single grain of salt. Article and video at BoingBoing: http://www.boingboing.net/2010/04/26/ib ... um=twitter

Re: Lulu Reprinting Best-Sellers from the Big Publishing Houses

Nathan, That's really interesting. I didn't know that Lulu was even allowed to sell books from other publishers. I've decided that it's an amazing time to be a reader. I've never seen lower book prices. I now find myself trying to decide whether to continue buying certain books in Kindle format (I h...

Lulu Reprinting Best-Sellers from the Big Publishing Houses

How intense are the price wars between competing booksellers? I think they’re pretty intense. Until a few months ago, Amazon always seemed to have the lowest prices. Recently, I’ve noticed competing companies offering the same books and movies at lower prices. My jaw just about dropped on the floor ...

Re: The unintended consequences of eliminating returns

gonzo2802 – The person I talked with wasn't talking about all debut authors, just that the bookstore where he worked didn't plan to ever unpack and stock all boxes of books by debut authors that were sent to them. My understanding is that the major chain bookstores charge more money for prominent pl...

Re: Books for FREE and ALMOST FREE

Ink and Hillary, Thanks for that information. I think I've been seeing very recent offers that might be more competitive, though. This past week, I received coupons to pre-order brand new hardcover and paperback books for less money than many Kindle books. I've also been able to order special versio...

Re: SYMBOLISM - RECOGNIZING & BUILDING

Mira - I agree. The symbolism should arise from the writer's subconscious. Once the symbols appear and the writer recognizes them for what they are, however, the writer can enjoy developing them. At least that's how it works for me. I think the best fiction includes some symbols that only become app...

Books for FREE and ALMOST FREE

Has anyone else noticed this? I can now buy “best-selling” books for free or almost for free on a regular basis. I’m the type of person who’s more than happy to pay full price for books in order to support the authors, but that’s actually becoming a bit of a challenge. Our local big-chain bookstores...
