Re: Article: Blogging bad idea for writers

Depressing, but valid. I'm relatively new to the blogosphere, and I'll admit part of the reason I started was to put my name out there. And he has a point with the domain names. All the good ones were snapped up long ago. But I'd like to think it's good to be involved in the blogging community. If y...

Re: The SQUEE GOOD NEWS Thread

So it's nothing big like landing an agent or a book deal, but I just got a wonderful review from my critique partner on the manuscript I've been editing for almost a year now!

Re: Idealism vs. Conspiracy

I think I big question you need to consider is whether this change in character would be able to fill another book. If not, then I'd say you shouldn't do it, or perhaps tweak the current WIP. If yes, then go for it! Explore that possibility.

I cried like that when I finished off the climax of my novel. It was such an emotional release to lead the MC through their greatest adventure. I think I wanted her to succeed as much as she did. If that makes any sense...

Re: I really need some encouragement right Now!

What I do when I feel the urge to put away a project because I've run out of steam, is to read a scene in the ms that I thought I'd written very well. Often it gets me in the mood for writing again, enough that I can push out a few more pages before the block hits. And then when it does I take some ...

Re: Submitting Trilogy One At A Time Or All Together?

You'll have to query just the first novel. An agent needs to be convinced of your writing abilities in the first book before going whole hog with a series. I would, however, mention in your query that you've already completed the drafts for the next two books. And I would find a critique partner to ...

Four minutes seemed like an eternity. Twice as long as it should've taken. He’d allowed for two, maybe two and a half at the most. He had planned meticulously, right down to the second hand padlock he bought at a garage sale Not necessary . He knew he would have to cut the old one to gain entry. It ...

Re: POD for Readers?

Yeah, not a fan of the "same price" thing. I doubt these books printed off in a flash will be of the same quality. It would be like paying the same amount of money at a drive-through as you'd pay at a fancy sit-down restaurant. Or paying more for an e-book than a print book.

Re: Paint by Genre?

Sounds like literary fiction. Although if there are more action scenes or scenes of extreme tension it could be a psychological thriller. What you described sounds like a complicated plot. Kudos on coming up with it!
Is it a stand alone novel or does it have series potential?

Re: blogs or websites or both

Like Ryan, it sounds like you should be fine with a blog for now. The nice thing about blogging is that you can find other writers through the blogosphere, and share those stories. I know that I'll look at a blog before a website because it's easier for me to keep tabs on a blog than a bookmark. And...

Re: Voice Problems

I agree with dios. No matter what you write, be it short stories or poetry etc, is important. I get the same exact looks from people when they hear I write young adult books. Of course, I also get them because some people don't think a "young adult" could write a good book. You are a write...

Re: Magic Realism Recommendations

Tamora Pierce has a series called The Circle of Magic that is young adult fantasy. It deals with magic that is expressed through natural outlets like sewing and gardening. It's pretty interesting :)
