Re: The Reading Room - New Book Social Networking Site
I dipped a toe into the Reading Room forum. They were all snippy about newbies wanting to know which way to the free ebooks. (Fortunately, I read that before I asked the same question.) I haven't looked at the other social networking sites, but I would like to see one where new authors are encourage...

Re: Are agents willing to sell only non-digital rights?
And, another question, please while I have your invaluable attention? We have been told by one of our forum followers (who claims to be an incognito rock star) that we need to get hooked up with an entertainment lawyer, pronto, because of the film media value of the project. Would that be at all a p...

Re: Are agents willing to sell only non-digital rights?
But, when it comes to non-fiction, does this idea of digital vs. non-digital have to be an either/or issue, Nathan? Our on-line readers have followed Linda Brown's memoir as it has been published on the web, chapter by chapter. Now we have come to the end and these same readers are eager to help pro...

(As a former Mississippian, I would ordinarily be rooting for the Manning-led teams, but when one is married to a rabid Bronx Italian Jets fan it is easier to switch than to fight.)

Re: How do you get yourself to write?
Sweet Polymath, I have seen you share a few of the reasons for your hermitage preferences before. I'm an introvert and a hermit as well, although not because of the irrational fear of interaction, but because I'm such good company for me. As you must be for you, with your ever intriguing analyses. B...

Re: Do we have any screenplay writers in our midst?
heh...you are loving the luxury of being able to get into people's heads, Lac, and I am enjoying the challenge of thinking in subtext! This is why I say writing is just about the most fun a person can have alone. Where else can we be both teacher and student to ourselves, forever it seems?

Re: Do we have any screenplay writers in our midst?
Camille, I'm impressed. It sounds like you have a natural gift for that form of story telling. Liv, my current project is a memoir co-authored with the daughter of a cold war scientist/spy who (some believe) discovered the secrets of "anti-gravity. The sceenplay is based on a different person f...

Do we have any screenplay writers in our midst?
My next project is a feature film screenplay. I have been surprised to find that I like the extreme discipline of writing for the screen. It's like writing to spec: Scripts have to be formatted just so, and the story has to be propelled by specific beats, each expected to fall within a narrow page c...

Re: Who Reports Who to Who?
I am not fond of the up-close-and-personal reportage either. It is like the person who stands too close for comfortable conversation, or worse, the one who walks up and says, "Wanna smell my armpits?" Are the choose-your-own ending stories very popular? I think of them as novelties. A year...

I thought it was hysterical, too, Mira. Is there a prize for the most disgusting image quote, I wonder?

Re: Got Gothic?
How wonderful for a Master Printer to have an apprentice who soaked up every bit of knowledge he had to offer. If only Archie Bunker had known what he was saying when he called Edith a Dingbat: Dingbat, lately a graphic digital text typeface, also cold and hot lead cases of graphic art nonce charact...

Re: Who Reports Who to Who?
I'm so glad you put this topic up, Polymath. I think of myself as a minimalist, stylistically speaking and happily for me, it is a style that is perfectly adapted to the way I lead my online life, flitting beelike from forum, to blog, to email, and back. I have noted that the Internet lends itself w...

E.B. White, on writing: "I wish instead I were doing what my dog is doing at this moment, rolling in something ripe he has found on the beach in order to take on its smell. His is such an easy, simple way to increase one's stature and enlarge one's personality." I actually can't claim that...

Mira, it always makes me smile to see your happy posts on Nathan's Open Thread day. He should change its name in your honor. <g> And thank you for the congratulations up thread. We will still be Nose/Grindstone for sometime yet, but we have turned the third act corner, and our speed will pick up a b...

Re: Got Gothic?
Thank you, Polymath. When Townsend Brown took off into arcane and detailed world descriptions of the world as he saw it, wife Josephine would gaze at him admiringly and say "Isn't he wonderful?" You often inspire the same reaction in me. I can't tell you how much appreciate the time and th...
