Re: Foreign authors

Hi Nathan, Thank you for operating this wonderful forum and sacrificing your time for us! I am writing on a fantasy novel that's nearing completion and while I am writing it for the simple reason that I love writing, I'd like to at least try getting it published. Now, the thing is, I have written i...

Re: The New Website

I really like a lot of the message board's features, but here's one that's a little odd IMO: the "URL" button. When you click on it, it just gives you url tags, so that you can easily do this: http://blog.nathanbransford.com/ But to have a text link, you have to hover over the 'URL' button...

Re: What are you reading now?

"How not to Write a Novel: 200 Classic Mistakes and How to Avoid Them--A Misstep-by-Misstep Guide" by Mittelmark and Newman.

One of the most hilarious things I have ever read. It would even be funny to people with no interest in writing.

What does the Apple gadget do besides ebooks for $1,000?

Re: Apple Tablet Rumor: Publishers get 70%?

According to Reiner, the tablet will have a 10.1-inch multitouch LCD display and a price of $1,000.
***needle scratches on the record***

Apple said what? For $1,000 this thing had better write my books for me.

Re: Ask Nathan

Wow, thanks again for being so generous with your time; we all really appreciate you for that. If I may, now I'm curious about roughly what percentage of your new clients will already have a publisher interested in their book before they contact you? In other words, how many will already have a publ...

Re: Ask Nathan

A follow-up to the above, if it's not too nosy. If it is, please feel free to ignore it. If you were to take on five new clients in a year, roughly how many more do you think you might offer to represent that, for whatever reason, would chose not to become clients of yours?

Re: Hachette and S&S to Delay Release of E-books

Hm. Then once ebooks are our overlords, we'll probably see the prices of ebooks creeping up year after year? For now, players like Amazon and B&N are still trying to get people in the door and woo them with their shiny new toys. After we're hooked, though, they must be eyeing figures like $12.95...

Re: Ask Nathan

Nathan, if I recall correctly, I saw that you read something like 7,000 - 10,000 queries a year and take on 2-3 new clients a year. That may be completely wrong, or those may be old figures, so I'm curious if I have the numbers right? I find infinitesimal odds strangely thrilling! Thanks.

Re: Hachette and S&S to Delay Release of E-books

As someone who wants to see the publishing industry financially successful, and as someone who wants to sell lots of hardcovers some day, I think this move makes perfect sense. Here's something I'm not sure I understand, though. Let's say a hardcover retails for $30. How much does the publisher make...

This could be a good topic for an entire subforum on here. Otherwise, I think "All Things Publishing" is about to become "All Queries" :D Yeah, if things start to get unwieldy here I might do that. For now I'll see how it works here. Nice, I like how the forum captures both quot...

Re: Monkeys vs. Bears

I say monkeys because they fight with Stephen Colbert on their side. Bears, however, are a grave threat to our democracy and are not to be taken lightly. But our white knight would not make such a mistake.

Re: The New Website

No problem. You clearly have things very well thought out on your site and it shows, but I wanted to offer some quick thoughts on the off chance that it might help in some way.
