Re: My Novel is finish.
First, before you do that, have you edited it repeatedly? Have you gone through critiquing? Have you beta tested it?

Don't hate your life about it. Just make sure it presses you into making the story better.

Re: Writing in 1st and 3rd
If it makes you feel any better, Oldhouse, I wrote my MS starting in first, then redid it in third, then halfway through, restarted in first with some third for another character, and now I am rewriting it again all in 1st from the MC's POV, except in one flashback scene.
That's a LOT Of rewriting.

Re: Formal Training
I took a few classes in college, and in HS. They were very different, and the instructor made all the difference. I will, however, impart this bit of Mark Twain's wisdom: Never let formal education get in the way of your learning I'm not sure what your genre is, but take a look at the posted classes...

My wife reads the books for True Blood. I watch because of Jessica.

Re: The Coffee Shop - JUNE
I'm slogging along with mine, but thanks to some help from some wonderful people, I have a lot of changes to make. I'm cataloging them, and then I'm going to do a massive cleanup, which usually involves starting from the beginning to incorporate those changes. Maybe this time, I will actually use an...

Concepts are cheaper than implementation. If you write a good book about a kid at a magical school, it may always be compared to Harry Potter, but if you do it well, it may stand alone just fine. Make it your own. Harry was not the first kid at a school for wizards

Re: The SQUEE GOOD NEWS Thread
Thanks. My wife would probably kill me if she knew I'd posted that. It's very early on, and all that stuff about who you are supposed to tell and all, but I couldn't keep it in.

Re: When can you tell the gender of a writer?
Short of sending you for spa treatments, no, sorry. Do what you think is right for you and your story. If you invent a world, then stereotypes are what you make them. You can make it so that all farmer's daughters think about is how to make butter, and yet women who slice their arms to take up the b...

Re: When can you tell the gender of a writer?
The book is mostly told from his perspective (Yeah, weird for the angsty one to be the guy, right?). In his perspective it is first person, yet when it switches to his sessions with a psychiatrist, it goes to third person, but from the doctor's point of view. I have not watched a single episode of l...

Re: When can you tell the gender of a writer?
Thanks. This will be number 2 for me, assuming everything works out there :). She knows he exists. She actually sort of likes him, but she's attached to a guy who is very possessive and borderline abusive (maybe not so borderline, though not physically). He's smitten with her, and she IS a good pers...

Re: When can you tell the gender of a writer?
Cheeky, First off, congrats on all the success you've been having. It's a tough biz, so you must be doing something right. That being said, this is a YA book with a supernatural/paranormal spin (though not a paranormal romance, really). The MC is a 16yr old boy. The girl he has feelings for is also ...

Re: When can you tell the gender of a writer?
I have an opposite problem. My male protagonist starts out rather weak, and unable to fight, and then comes off as somewhat feminine to some readers. Alternately, my wife has told me she wishes there were more female characters with higher levels of authority in the book... I can't please everyone. ...
