Re: Writers with Small Children

I have a 22 month old son and a 7 week old son. I've found that I really need to get out of the house even if my wife is caring for them. It's hard when you hear the kiddos crying and know you can help out. Then there's the cat litter, garbage, and dishes always calling your name too! I cared for my...

Re: Protagonist blog idea

If you're feeling it then do it. I think it will make you delve into the character more thus giving him more life on the page and in your actual novel. There are worst ways to use your time. That's for sure. :)

Re: What is your writing weakness? (Let's call this therapy)

1. Internet: I can't seem to log off and write. Totally! I've been purposely going to places without internet to write at night. It's a hole in the wall bar up the street with specials on Bourbon on Tuesdays. Perfect situation! Even then, in the middle of a revision or when I have to stop and actua...

Re: Is it Ready?

Welcome zrisso. Sounds like you are rolling with your projects. A team of serious beta readers or an editor could be in order. Since you don't have the dept associated with an MFA program, you should consider hiring a pro to help hone your work. Whether you plan on seeking an agent or going the indi...

Re: Multimedia e-books

Hey Dave Well if it's something like yoga then yeah it needs to be filled with multimedia such as pics and videos but most stories don't need to be. Yeah. The medium lends itself best to nonfiction instructional topics such as cooking, automotive, sports, etc. Of course I am biased because of my pro...

Re: Copyright Issue

What kind of content does the blog specialize in? Are they or you making money off the blog? If they gave you credit, it would drive traffic to your own site and give you exposure. Involving lawyers seems like a lot of headache and money. Hope it pans out without too much time, emotion and cash.

Re: Writing Group Dilemma

Glad to hear you are well. Go with the gut. Maybe you are supposed to expand and meet more writers. Seems like you could work something out though if you value the feedback of the group so much. Maybe you get the pass on that particular person's work. Someone has to write Silence of the Lambs stuff ...

Re: The SQUEE GOOD NEWS Thread

A cautionary tale about squeeing: Just had someone I know squee about incredible sales on a forum (of bitter people) that shall remain nameless. Sudden influx of negative reviews, all phrased with terminology generally used only by writers. It's sad when you've got something to share, something tha...

Re: Poll: Why do you write?

I enjoy it all. The process of taking an initial idea into the explosive first draft and carving it into a 'finished' piece is really rewarding. That word rewarding keeps popping up lately. I've been telling people that life is the most rewarding its every been with my book release and being a Dad, ...

Re: Do you have a new blog post?

You never know how you'll use a piece of writing, a picture, or some video. One liners written on napkins can become powerful conclusion sentences. That random photo might just end up on a book cover. I put together a quick post showing how my book cover came together. I love "It all came toget...

Re: E-book ISBNs: BISG releases crazy recommendations

Skellie, I don't totally agree with what I wrote either because I HATE unneeded BS. But since I'm already in deep, I want everyone else to suffer too. :) I used up five of my ISBNs on my one title! Paperback, hardcover (some people still like these things), Kindle, E-pub, and the soon to be released...

Re: E-book ISBNs: BISG releases crazy recommendations

I have mixed feelings about how much we as Indies should adhere to some standards. As a remodel contractor ($$ Job!), I pay a certain amount to be licensed and insured this way I'm legit and can pitch myself as a professional. When unlicensed guys underbid me it sort of irks me. I think there needs ...

Re: The pressure of word counts

I think you have the right attitude. If it works it works.

What's the saying? Quality not quantity?

I've seen a lot of documentaries that could have wrapped it up in thirty minutes but the directors and producers wanted it to be a feature length so it ended up dragging and losing its focus.
