I got five pages into it before a magical portal opened up and my character was imbued with wizardly powers.

My dad used to tell me stories about young women who did amazing things, went on adventures, saw the world. It just made sense to write about adventure, and girls like the ones I used to think of when I was scared. You know a story has been told right when you want to live up to the character.
