Re: All time Favorite movies
Fried Green Tomatoes ("Face it lady, I'm older and have more insurance!") Seriously one of the best lines ever. :) I love love love Kathy Bates! I think I have watched just about everything she's ever done (at least in movies). One of my favorites she did about 5 or 6 years ago now, is a ...

Re: my query attempt
This sounds like a great story! Something I might pick up and read through, and possibly buy. The query process sucks, doesn't it? But hey, you've made it to this point - Congratulations! Here are a few suggestions. Nothing too big because it's a pretty strong query. Okay, here is my rough draft qu...
Re: Les Mis
Thanks guys. Yeah, I'm leaning toward the abridged if for no other reason than I'm certain I won't finish in time. But now I won't feel too guilty over it!

Re: Oh Crap Breast Cancer
Yay! I'm so glad for you. I bet it was a stressful kind of wait - not knowing if you're going to have to go through it all again or not. Glad it's NOT! And congratulations on the "green light" for art too. That's gotta feel nice.
Re: Les Mis
Thanks for the comments so far. I'm still waffling between the original version and an abridged. My husband read the abridged and says he didn't feel "cheated" in any way. But then I think, "How do you know, you haven't read the original!" *sigh*
Les Mis
Most of you have probably heard that a new movie of Les Mis is coming this December. Some friends of mine have decided to read the book before the movie comes out. I don't know about any of you, but a book of this magnitude - what is it, 1400 pages? - is a little bit daunting! So, what do you all th...

Re: Literary Fiction - Untitled
I don't know, I think with Literary Fiction you can get away with not using conventions more than with other genres. And, I think in this instance it actually works quite well. Lit. Fic. is more about being multilayered and complex, bringing out voice and characterization. Sometimes, the best way to...

Re: The Coffee Shop - SEPTEMBER
So Sommer. How are things? It's been a week since "THE DAY." Just wondering how you are holding up. On to other things, my writing has withered almost to a stand still. School is back in session and I have been busy keeping my sons going with their work. One of them is home-schooled and it...

Re: Language Spectrum
I agree with polymath that it's very much context driven. I think the possible worry here is that, because you are writing a fantasy novel, the reader might misinterpret the sentence and think the cave is actually speaking (since things like that aren't impossible in fantasy writing). However, I thi...

Re: Contructing a Fantasy Super writing group
I really like the LJ set-up. It's pretty easy to use and I like being able to see what everyone else had said. But I like to save that for after I've already made my own critique so I'm not biased or influenced by others' critique of the same work. Plus, I love the diversity of the novels even thoug...

To Kill a Mockingbird 5. !2 Angry Men 6. The 6th Sense 7. Waitress 8. Sideways 9. Wizard of Oz 10. Some Like it Hot Runners...

Re: The hardest part of the novel
Endings. I really suck at bringing everything to a nice final close. I can get all my loose ends tied up in neat little bows, but my endings seem to lack a certain something. I'm hoping my critique partners can help me out with that.

Not knowing is always the worst. Trixie is right. Knowledge is power, and after Friday - come what may - it will be better than the waiting and not knowing. I will be thinking of you and sending positive thoughts, mojo and virtual cupcakes your way!
