On an episode of Cupcake Wars someone made a bacon and maple cupcake. The theme was breakfast food.

Re: Query: Serious vs. Jokey...

VERSION #2: Newbie journalist Elizabeth Mitchell wants to change the world – not wrap a veil around it. But in steeple-dotted Stockhill (a Manhattan suburb she hopes will lead to a national byline elsewhere) nothing negative is on the record; Lance Wharton, her millionaire watchdog of a boss, makes...

Re: A Touch of Madness

Thanks for the comments! I was kinda afraid it was too telly and not enough showy. Here's a new attempt. Let me know which you think is better (or at least has more potential). There are some rough spots in this new one because I had issues figuring out how to say some things so any constructive cri...

Re: Writing out of order or not?

I have to write in order so I no where it's going. Seriously, I'm so obsessive/pathetic about this that if I can't think of a name for something I'll sit and stare at my computer screen until I at least come up with a decent filler word. I can't just keep going and come back to it later. Sometimes i...

Re: Query - The Beautiful People

Dear God, I've worked so hard on this (and I definitely think these latest efforts are miles above what I originally wrote), but tell me what you think. The first query is from the villian's POV. She's really not that sympathetic of a character, yet I had a lot of suggestions that told me to write ...

A Touch of Madness

This is my sci-fi novel A TOUCH OF MADNESS. I'm getting ready to query soon but would like some feedback on the letter. Feel free to be brutal. Thanks! When Gliane and her friends are sent to the Maircla Desert to track an odd creature, their mission is strictly to observe. However, when they follow...

Re: Query - The Cacao Conspiracy

When Peta Blackman takes a job assisting on a documentary about chocolate, she discovers the dark side of the sweet treat : murder . An Ivorian cacao collector and a French chocolatier are both killed in front of Peta, who finds an identical symbol (I think it would help to specify what kind of sym...

Re: Rejection Stats

Last week I got a rejection letter. To add insult to injury they addressed the letter to "Mr" instead of "Ms."

Re: The Harry Potter effect in my MG/YA writing

I think it mostly depends on your plot. You do have a few similar elements, and lumped together like that it does look like "copying" but I think you need to examine your plot as a whole and go from there.

Re: THE DIM- New Query-REVISION

What do you think?? *eek* After Hope Walton loses her awesome mom in a stupid, freakin’ earthquake, not even a mountain of pills could numb her pain. While in rehab, she receives a visit from her reclusive aunt, who brings her a photo of a 500 year-old painting. Hope doesn’t give a rat’s ass about ...

Re: THE DIM- New Query

Yeah, I remember reading yours on the Shark's blog! If I were you, I wouldn't worry. Out of over 60 queries I got one full request which ended up being rejected. That's it. All rejections. I reworked the letter a few times too and am still waiting to hear back from other agents and publishers. The p...
