Welcome, thrintone.
If you have any questiosn, just ask. And the first thing you have to do for a query is relax. :) It's just a story, though a short one. Hook, character, conflict, rising action, conclusion. Easy Peasy. If you can write a good novel, you can write good query.

Re: Multimedia or Straight Text?
Dickens, Lewis Carroll, Conan Doyle, and Pynchon all used illustrations well. WG Sebald and Javier Marias use photos well. Very few people use them well. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/archive/a/a9/20060119154504!Trystero-small.png Well, Sebald doesn't have any frigging paragraphs, so I t...

Re: Multimedia or Straight Text?
Text text text text text. And then some more text. Unless I'm reading a graphic novel. Which would sort of defeat the point.
An end to straight text would be pushing a stake into my poor little vampiric heart.

Re: (This thread is not yet titled)
My wife and I actually have a title game: we pick fragments out of people's conversations (and our own) that would make great titles. I'm a complete sucker for a great title. A great title just grabs you: Of Love and Other Demons. Thank you, Gabriel Garcia Marquez.

Though I'd put Into Thin Air up there, too. And Vassily Grossman's A Writer at War. And A Woman in Berlin, by Anonymous.

I'm rereading (to my wife) perhaps the best book I've ever read, and it's a memoir -- http://www.amazon.com/Strange-Piece-Paradise-Terri-Jentz/dp/0312426690/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1282101615&sr=1-1 Strange Piece of Paradise, by Terri Jentz. Ignore the Publishers Weekly review, as...

Hi Marlan,
Feel free to lurk away, but it's a good crowd here - very friendly and polite. Occasionally silly. But it's all between friends.
If you need anything, just give me a holler.

Nathan, isn't there a part of you that's just dying to get your hands on your final copy of Jacob Wonderbar? I mean literally in your hands, not an electronic, downloaded version that your agent or editor e-mails you. Have you thought about what it's going to feel like the first time you see some t...

Re: Narrative Distance Limbo Closer Now
Well, it's not necessarily "should". There's no direct correlation between "close" and "good" or "distant" and "bad". There's no objective value placement on the choices of narrative distance. There is subjective value; certain people like certain di...
