VERY newest and freshest

I am about to puke over this. I am getting 50% I love it 50% I hate it. So another rewrite. If this doesn't work I will send the last one out probably since I felt most comfortable with it. I can't give more detail because then I cloud it with subplots, and I can't make it more thrilling because it ...

Re: new WHAT A PAINE! query page 3

Maybe this clarifies some things, fixes some errors yadda yadda. I now have my beta MS to work on, so I won't be fixing this for the next week. After that if I still feel good it is going out. Majority says it is pretty good. I can fiddle with it for the rest of eternity...I don't get paid to fiddle...

Re: new WHAT A PAINE! query page 3

whipslip, I felt the "our world" in the first line made the setting pretty clear. I can't up the stakes or anything, because it isn't a thriller, it's a comedy. They catch the kidnappers and find out they are TV producers training paranormal kids to go on a reality TV show. Nobody in the b...

Re: new WHAT A PAINE! query page 3

I'm pretty sure I am going to cut that last line. Some people laughed, but I had enough complaints against it that it feels like a risk. It also doesn't move the plot along in any way. The actual outcome of paranormals being revealed doesn't even occur in this book since they bust the kidnappers in ...

NEWEST VERSION

Hope this is better. I am considering cutting the last line, but I like the rest. Dear Agent, Vampire mania floods bookstores, theaters, even cable, and Reece Paine believes our world isn’t ready for the truth. Fiction may not be fact, but she thinks that a vampire with a demon spouse and flying tod...

Re: Finding an agent with a sense of humor

Tiger Gray, the humor isn't for me. My book is a heavily comical urban fantasy. Since the genre is NOT typically filled with super funny books, I want someone who loves fantasy, but will take a book well that makes fun of itself and some of the genre too. It doesn't do any of those things in a bad w...

Re: Final (I hope) WHAT A PAINE! Query See page 2

Thanks for the feedback! You are echoing some other feedback I am getting. I think I may take ou the Twilight reference and twiddle with the last two paragraphs.

I think it is getting really close!

Re: 10 reasons e-books might not eat the world

I wonder if bookstores will become like video rental stores. You can go in and look at shelves of empty cases with a pretty pictures on the front and descriptions on the back. Then you can take tabs or whatnot for books you like and load your own e-reader up at the checkout counter. THAT would be co...

Re: Plot or Character - Which Comes First?

Plot undoubtedly. I don't write anything, even an outline, until I have a character to fit into it though. I do most of my outline mentally anyway, with lots of notes to keep me on track. Funny, setting is probably the last thing I consider, and subplots I let occur on the fly. I find a lot of inter...

Finding an agent with a sense of humor

How do you do it? HELP! I'm serious. This agent search thing stinks like my husband's gym shorts. Everything says you should be very careful in your agent search, but I don't know if there is a private resource to agent information I don't know about. Knowing the genres they look for, book deals the...

Re: Final (I hope) WHAT A PAINE! Query See page 2

Thanks!! I've made a few changes, one was the "moms" I just feel like a boob for reposting 18million and fifty two times. If people read this and LIKE it, PLEASE be inspired and understand that trashing your query and rewriting it, is the only way to get what you have to have. Also, every ...

Re: Final (I hope) WHAT A PAINE! Query See page 2

I had some confusion from some people about the setting, and I was trying to make it clear that this was OUR world, without going into a lengthy description. There is a somewhat veiled Twilight reference in the first few pages of the book, but it isn't too snarky. I'm going to leave things as they s...

Re: Revised WHAT A PAINE! please read!!! ;)

Edited again, then AGAIN before I even got any responses, LOL Dear Agent, After the influx of “Twilight mom’s”, Reece Paine believes our world isn’t ready for the truth about paranormals. Hype is giving them a bad image, and being a working vampire Mama, married to a demon, with a flying toddler mig...

Re: Revised WHAT A PAINE! please read!!! ;)

Awesome, I think I'll play with it in the morning. I have running toddlers who seem determined to smear me with mucus. A3writer, thanks for the help! Thanks to all for any feedback. As always I am grateful. My husband gives me scary looks anymore when I come bearing the laptop and puppy dog eyes. I'...
