Re: Writing YA and making meaning of those adolescent years
Wilderness, I agree that it is a bit depressing and I do like to hope that people change (and that the not so cool kids go on to be awesome), but I still think we carry it all with is. We can be successful architects and computer programmers and still have scars from those years. While we change and...

Writing YA and making meaning of those adolescent years
Because my day job is in mental health, specifically with adolescents, this time of transition and becoming is on my mind a lot. It's true that when I meet with troubled kids I give them a little spiel on their brain development and how they might be feeling things bigger, brighter, more painfully, ...

We are getting closer, Mockingbird!
I should just read the books already, though.
Go Jon Snow!

I can't do it! I'm a failure at anagrams! Also, I didn't try very hard. Anyone else want to? First name is ALISON.

Mental Illness in Fiction
Hi, I'm looking for some recommendations of fiction books that deal realistically with mental illnesses. Young Adult would be best, but any would be helpful. Specifically depression, anxiety, and bi-polar disorder. Thanks!

Thanksgiving wishes and despair
Hello! Happy Thanksgiving! I wish I liked this holiday more. Anyone else dreading their required travel and in-law visiting? I'm telling myself that the 6 hour car trip will mean lots of writing and reading (to make me feel better about the cramped space, arguments over music, and road food). Maybe ...

The Unnamed is sad. At least in the middle! Shadow of Night is more scrumptious.Beethovenfan wrote:I'm reading SHADOW OF NIGHT right now too! It better not be sad!abc wrote:Shadow of Night by Deborah Harkness and The Unnamed by Joshua Ferris. Both are scrumptious. One is sad, but scrumptious.

Re: What T.V. shows are you watching?
This reminds me, I wish Community would hurry up and start. Right now I am watching Homeland, The Walking Dead, Flipping Out, 30 Rock, The Office, Parks & Rec, and Modern Family. Just started season one of Parenthood on the ole Netflix. Sometimes I watch those ghost shows on various cable networ...

I loved Gillian Flynn way back when (in the early days, with the first two books) and now this Gone Girl is the biggest thing ever and I have to wait like 14 years to get it at the library. I know. I should buy it! But I'm trying to be frugal these days. What with the wintry economic climate and the...

Re: Favorite Animation Character
Is this books or movies? Movies, I guess. Animation is motion. Cause if it was cartoon, well, Charlie Brown. But, um, animation, well Toothless. I have a soft spot for Toothless because my kid is such a freak for dragons and he kinda started it all. Hiccup is pretty awesome, too.

But I've already watched True Blood. And will continue to watch, despite feeling some ambivalence about it. Poor Sookie, she can't get a days rest!
I've pretty much watched anything of note. Currently on the BBC's Sherlock. Can't wait for Breaking Bad, which is brilliant.
