Re: Word Count/Writing Challenge - OCTOBER
I wish I'd kept track of my word counts last month because I think I ended up in the 40,000 range (I'm working on several projects though, only one of which is the superhero story.) I end up with a huge output every month, but my schedule is pretty eratic. I don't get any work done for five or six d...

Thanks for sharing this with everyone!

The Coffee Shop - OCTOBER
Many writers have found participating in the All Things Writing thread to be very motivational, but it is also very difficult to give encouragement, tips, and advice easily, or just to chat, gossip, or unload our frustrations when it doesn't fit in with any given topic. This is a companion thread wh...

Word Count/Writing Challenge - OCTOBER
I challenge you to set a writing goal for October and work hard to reach it. The general word count goal is always 30K, but if you've met that in previous months, try 35K. Standard format: One post per person, updated with new word counts/goal info daily, weekly, whenever. Please consider posting fo...

Re: Major Blunder with New E-Book
Too long for me personally. I would never even consider it for a few different reasons and these are not meant to be an attack against your personal writing style. Having never seen the book I can't make a quality judgement on it, but this is what I can comment on: 1. Time. If the average reader get...
Re: Les Mis
So I don't know how much help I'm going to be. I haven't read Les Mis, but I have read the cut version of The Stand by Stephen King and thought it was awesome. I thought it was so awesome I read the complete and uncut version (which is about big enough to stop a bullet.) I wish I'd left it at the ab...

Re: Using different fonts
I think you can do what you want to do, because they'll change it to suit themselves anyway. But if you plan to self-publish it at all, fonts get tricky and not all are supported. If you choose to pick a different font, keep two things in mind: 1. Make it legible. I mean, really, really legible. 2. ...

Re: Does anyone else have this problem?
Not sure if this is helpful or not, but the way I write and edit is this: I do not write in one file. Each chapter has a separate document (Named 1.0 or 1.1 or 2.3 or whatever. First number is chapter, second number is revision number). I work by chapter. While, of course, some editing requires a bi...

Re: The Coffee Shop - SEPTEMBER
So Sommer. How are things? It's been a week since "THE DAY." Just wondering how you are holding up. On to other things, my writing has withered almost to a stand still. School is back in session and I have been busy keeping my sons going with their work. One of them is home-schooled and i...

Re: What T.V. shows are you watching?
I like TV. I actually can't watch movies because I just don't have the attention span anymore. That requires too much sitting still for too long. With TV I can multitask and still pay close enough attention. That being said, I go in spurts, which is why I watch TV on netflix and Zune on my xbox. I m...

Re: Think Tank: Fashioning an "approved" stamp
I think it's the one big draw of self-pubbing is also it's biggest fault - anyone can do it. And not everyone should. Harsh, but honest. There's been much said about the "gatekeeper" hate, but I think it is a very necessary cog in the system. We need someone who can tell a writer they aren...

Re: The SQUEE GOOD NEWS Thread
Congrats Hillary! And thanks for the good wishes Mira and BComet! I actually have a new SQUEE. In April I attended the RT Booklover's Convention and I pitched some agents and editors. After multiple full request, an R&R from an awesome publisher and two offers of publication, I'm very happy to ...

Re: Any genre ideas?
The YA novel I'm writing at the moment is set in the near future, however the characters in the book have been led to believe they live in a large colony that was built after wars broke out over the world. They believe there is nothing outside the colony where they live - but in reality, the world ...

Re: That's and Was's
I've gotten very good about not using the words "just" and "that". Usually when I'm writing I'm not even really paying attention to the precise word choices I make, but those two words have been beaten into my head so much that they send up a red flag from my fingers the minute I...
