Re: Writing Sex Scenes

Sommer, I wanted to let you know that I read the Regency Romance book you recommended. WOWZZER. My goodness. There was one scene where he kissed her on the wrist, I almost couldn't read it. Sigh. Thanks for the recommendation. :D I know right!!!! Right after the wrist kiss I like, gasped for breath...

Re: The SQUEE GOOD NEWS Thread

Cheeky! That is fantastic! I'm so glad for you. It's nice to know that one of our own (I consider all of us here on the Bransforums as just one big family ) has made it to publishing. Or at least almost there. You'll need to give us a play-by-play of how things go so we will know what to expect when...

Although the momentary interest in writing silly poems about condiments may have passed. We shall see! :)
Um, too late for serious. I've already posted on this thread.

Re: YA fantasy word count?

The way I understand things, agents and publishers tend to give a little more leeway when it comes to fantasy because they understand that it takes more to build a new fantasy world. Even if your world is right here on good 'ol planet Earth the story still needs room to build the "fantasy"...

Re: Old fashioned dialogue

I had that same problem with my historical fiction. I wanted it to have an old language feel to it without the language getting in the way. Read some Jane Austen or the Bronte sisters and get a feel for how the rhythm of the language flows differently back then from today. It's long enough ago to so...

Re: Female Characters

Give her a HUGE character flaw. Something that can't be simply overlooked. We all have flaws, and the interesting stuff in writing happens when we see how the characters live life with these flaws. What choices (good or bad) will the character make because of her flaws? And, will she triumph over he...

Is it the pull of warm spring days? I have not put pen to paper as well as usual. I really should write, but my flowers are calling!

Re: Share your poems

Here's my first go. Yes, there will be more to follow, oh lucky you! This is a haiku, but only in the sense that if follows the 5 - 7 - 5 pattern for syllables and not the traditional Japanese style which is very difficult and involved. WRITING Frustrations flourish. Expression desires the page, but...

Re: What's in a Name?

The main character in the MS I recently finished is named Jane. I chose it because of its ordinary-ness. She is a young woman who is anything but ordinary so I figured her name could be - no, should be plain. A lot of the other names in my story I chose because of who their characters are. For examp...

Re: Out of curiosity

I've written some historical fiction with some fantasy (OK a lot of fantasy) elements. I'm currently working on a historical fiction based on true events. No fantasy in this one. Hmm, perhaps I'm seeing a historical pattern here... I'm in for the poetry thread, so long as you all can handle incipid ...

Re: Pretty good is not gonna cut it

I think most of us have been where you are. But it's important to remember why we do this writing thing everyday. Why do we close ourselves off from the world and sit at a tiny table and stare at a page or computer screen for hours? Why do we wrack our brains for that perfect word that will just mak...

These are so funny! I needed a good laugh right now.
The only one I could think of was something my 7-year-old came home from school singing back in December:
♪Feliz naughty dog♪♪
♫Feliz naughty dog♫
We still sing this at him from time to time!

Re: Don't you ever interupt me while I'm reading a book!

Sommer, you find some of the best videos! That was great. Had to play it again for my son. Then he went and got his Green Eggs and Ham book. Gotta love it when a video will get kids to read! :)
