Re: Nominate Your First Page for a Critique on the Blog
Title: Trinity Genre: Science fantasy Words: 251 (out of 366. Prologue) I heard the steps of death. She was coming back for her. She laid in my arms, exhausted and in pain. I couldn't imagine a worse place to meet our end, in this filthy, disgusting cell. As I heard them get closer, I was taken over...

Re: Partial versus Full
A good way to know is to sign up on QueryTracker and look on the query statistics and comments section. Some agents exclusively request full manuscripts, but it doesn't imply they will read it all. These agents often stop mid-way (sometimes after page 25, even if they requested the full) if they don...

Re: Rejection Stats
Indeed it does, but you're doing amazing already, so you should at least feel a wee bit confident :)

Re: Do you have a new blog post?
With the popular E3 Game convention underway, I've blogged about video gaming and its influence on the world of writing. Video games are a perfect example of how important immersion is, and how they can help a writer to forge authentic and organic settings. http://blog.franciscossette.com/2010/06/wr...

Re: Interview with Casey McCormick
Great interview, I enjoyed it a lot! Best answer is this, in my opinion: K: What is the most common downfall you hear about (not necessarily through the lit agency, though) for new and/or unpublished authors? CM: I think most new and/or unpublished writers query too soon, often before they even kno...

Re: The rules of "stronger" writing... lol?
Anyone else noticed POV issues after a pass? My critique partner pointed them out to me... there weren't that many, but I was surprised I COMPLETELY missed them!

Re: The rules of "stronger" writing... lol?
I think you are starting to make this personal, FK7. I've learned after my first practicum as a first year medstudent never to take things personal, especially not when you're debating a topic, regardless with whom you're doing it. You don't know me though, and this might seem personal to you, but ...

Re: The rules of "stronger" writing... lol?
I'm afraid I don't understand the conclusion that the "rules" (guidelines would be a better word, I think) are arbitrary and based on some random writer's superiority complex Not all rules (or guidelines). Some, however, are. I read a story from a fellow writer every day about how some te...

Re: The rules of "stronger" writing... lol?
Very interested points you all made lac582, polymath and J.T. SHEA. I think most agree that experienced writers see the rules more as guidelines, however, since most of us are debut authors (at least I am), I have to abide by the book. Just like as a medical student, we can't cut any corners even th...

Re: The rules of "stronger" writing... lol?
@cheeky: I agree with you 100% about adverbs that are misused. You can't gasp a phrase, like you can't crow or snarl words. You can't whisper loudly. On the top of my head, there's a scene in my novel where a guy's girlfriend is playing the seducing game. "Hi, Gaby," she said teasingly. No...
