Re: MEETING OF THE WATERS -- 5 rejections means revision time!

I posted a new synopsis - http://forums.nathanbransford.com/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=1775 - with some changes I plan to make based on comments made about the query, and some other flaws I've noticed. If anyone can spare time to read the synopsis, maybe the insight could help me work out a query that cap...

Revised synopsis - MEETING OF THE WATERS

I got a round of rejections, so I'm looking to revise my novel query and synopsis (and the novel itself). If you want to see the query, you can find it here: http://forums.nathanbransford.com/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=1732 SYNOPSIS In August 2016, JAIME ADRICKS quits playing Ages: High Seas, because the ...

Writers meet up in Atlanta

Last year a few of my friends and I tried to start up the Terminus City Writers Club, where we would read and critique each others' work. That fell apart quickly because while we liked each other as people, we didn't share each others' taste in fiction. We had a poet who didn't write prose at all, a...

Re: Can @oldspice get me an agent?

Clever idea. Good luck. I wish I'd thought of it.

(I would have sent something like, Dear Old Spice guy, I'm trying to get an agent for my time travel cyberpunk pirate romance novel. Does the power of Old Spice help attract literary agents? Sincerely, Ryan.)

Re: Do you have a new blog post?

I don't believe in magic, but I live in a magical world. http://ryanznock.blogspot.com/2010/07/i-dont-believe-in-magic-but-i-live-in.html Anyone have any thoughts on magic? Post 'em please. And Hillary, congratulations! Sorry I missed the party. I can't find it on a cursory scan of your blog, but wh...

Re: TRINITY, an urban fantasy query

I agree that the tone seems to take a hard left turn halfway through the query. It's hard to go from quirky cappuccinos to potential genocide without some cognitive dissonance. Also, this isn't fair, but I'm personally biased against cat people. Maybe it was too much anime as a teenager, or Avatar, ...

Re: MEETING OF THE WATERS -- 5 rejections means revision time!

Well, I have to say I still like the first new version better. I love that line about weaving between the game and reality. I liked the line too because it explains what Jaime ends up doing at the end of the story. Unfortunately, I realize now that it's not a very clear mental image, and I'm worrie...

Re: MEETING OF THE WATERS -- 5 rejections means revision time!

Hmmm. Intriguing suggestions. This thread has actually given me some excellent ideas for rewrites that could make the story flow better. Thank you very much.

Re: MEETING OF THE WATERS -- 5 rejections means revision time!

What you have detected is ultimately one of the flaws of the novel that I'm trying to work out. The ending's complicated. So it's 2016. The Olympics are about to start in Rio, and Jaime goes to Brazil to find his ex-girlfriend Afi, who programmed for the game that he and Alessandra play: pirates vs....

Re: MEETING OF THE WATERS -- 5 rejections means revision time!

Good points all around. Thank you from all four chambers of my heart. How about this? In the online video game Ages: High Seas, Jaime Adricks has teamed up with Brazilian gamer Alessandra Rocha as their pirate and spy characters try to stop time-traveling Nazis from conquering the 17th century Carib...

MEETING OF THE WATERS -- 5 rejections means revision time!

Hi again. I got some great advice here for my query, which out of 5 queries garnered 1 request for a partial. But that eventually turned into a rejection, so now as I look to address the concerns raised by the agent's reply, I also want to see if I could improve my query. Here's the new version I'm ...

Thanks. That's a perfectly rational and reasonable answer, but I'm sure I'm like many authors in that I become irrationally worried when it comes to getting my stuff published.

Urban fantasy/paranormal it is!

It's not fantasy. It's modern with some magic. What genre?

I'm coming across a lot of agents that say no to fantasy, but are okay with 'supernatural.' Now, 'supernatural' is a term I usually see paired up with 'romance,' and while my novel has romance, there's also adventure. It's a road trip in the real world where two characters encounter magical things a...

In my new blog, I discuss turning video game 'achievements' into part of everyday life. http://ryanznock.blogspot.com/

(Also, please tell me if the background image is causing trouble. If it makes things lag, I'll go to a plain background. Thanks.)

Re: Do you have a new blog post?

The great Tahereh AKA TH Mafi shares her query/submission/representation process on The QQQE today. I hope you can ...
