Timeless (YA Paranormal Romance)

Hi all, I've been gone from the Forums for a while, since I threw out my old manuscript and started the story again, from scratch. But now I'm back and hopefully close to querying. Any comments are much appreciated, thanks! ------ Dear [Agent]: Seventeen-year old Helene Jacobsen has never questioned...

Wryan and BlancheKing,
I was a lawyer for 6 years before I quit to become a writer, so feel free to PM me if you have any questions about law school, legal careers, etc.

Ouch, rough day, D-minus. Sorry to hear that. Go out and do something nice for yourself. Hopefully tomorrow will feel better.

Re: Ask Nathan

Justine,
The partial request that I got included instructions to upload to the agent's online submission form, with a password that was only good for 7 - 10 days. So, at least for that agent, 7 - 10 days must be an acceptable time period.

Re: Which email provider do you send queries from?

Thanks, Nathan. You're right that it was my attempt to "fix" the indentations that actually made it worse. Even though the indents looked uneven in the draft I wrote, the "sent" version looked worse, and probably would have been okay had I not touched the formatting. As for what I'm going to do - I'...

Which email provider do you send queries from?

Hi all, I'm curious if anyone else is having the same problems I am with pasting sample pages into the body of my email. Gmail automatically inserts blank lines between each paragraph, and Hotmail looks okay when you draft the email, but if you go into your sent box, HORROR OF HORRORS! The formattin...

Re: Finding An Agent Analogies

I don't have an analogy better than the ones you all have offered, but I just wanted to say to casnow: that last line cracked me up. Thanks for the laugh. :)

Congrats on the full, Ryan! That's really great - make sure you let us know how it goes (and your NPR contest, too). I like that advice about celebrating in stages.

Re: Request for a Full MS - It came...the rejection.

Justine, Sorry you heard back on the full like that. I wouldn't have blathered on about my partial if I'd known what happened to you on the same day, so I'm really sorry if I seemed insensitive. Just remember that you got requests on TWO different MS's! That's phenomenal! And if you've already gotte...

Re: Request for a partial!

Thanks! Of course, I'm going to spend all weekend polishing those 30 pages, which were "perfect" until I actually got a request to see them.

Query: Crossing Fate (Contemporary YA)

I'm far from declaring victory yet, but in case anyone who read the first draft of my query is curious, here's the version of the query that I sent that got me a request for a partial. Thanks again for everyone's input! Dear [Agent]: Helene Jacobsen has never believed in fairy tales. But when the pl...

Request for a partial!

Hurrah! I just got my first request for a partial! (At first, I wasn't going to post anything because I didn't want to jinx it. But then I thought, what the heck! I'm bouncing off the walls here, and I need to share with people who understand!) I sent my first 5 queries on Wednesday night to agents ...

Re: Head-Hopping - what's the deal people?

I think switching POV is fine if it's done seamlessly. Put another way, the reader almost shouldn't realize the POV changed, shouldn't have to make an effort to switch gears. It's all part of the art of the author disappearing into the background. Don't let the reader realize you're in the way.
