Re: VISIONS (YA)
Dear Mr. Agent, A grieving seventeen-year-old must use her unwanted ability to see into the future, track down, and stop the serial killer who is terrorizing Princeton, NJ. (I think her name should be in this first part. Maybe: Seventeen-year-old Channing...// That she is 'grieving' is a given when...

Re: It's hard out here for a pimp
Dear TimP, What if I were to re-query in six months with a whole new proposal. One that is shiny and exactly what you are looking for? Is it bad business etiquette to resubmit myself in a whole new package? I appreciate any consideration and thank you for your time. Best Regards, The Ho to your Pimp

Re: My Weird Experiment
The trailer looks good, although it didn't really give me any idea about the book. Well, I got that people have gifts and maybe your MC is in trouble for using his wrong and maybe he didn't. I suspect it has something to do with water since that was a prevalent theme in the trailer (and name of the ...

Re: Getting Ahead of Yourself
Sadly, I don't have a beta reader anymore. I've some friends who I've sent it to with strict instructions to tell me what doesn't work for them, and they all go 'I didn't see anything wrong with it. Read it straight through. It's awesome. Good luck!' Which, of course, infuriated me. I'm not the next...

Re: It's hard out here for a pimp
This was quite the amusing insight. The other day a friend said that sending in queries is like speed dating, trying to figure out if you're a good fit. I said that I feel more like a ho looking for a pimp. Either way, it's all a learning experience. I wouldn't be the same person I am without the fa...

Re: Feedback beginning of Time Tourism
I see what you're saying, Holly. And yeah, I'm not deluding myself about being able to be so successful that I get to quit having a day job. I know most writers have to keep one while they write, even if they are best sellers. I was just spouting lunacy, as usual. At this point all I have is a stack...

Re: Feedback beginning of Time Tourism
Thanks Yoshima, Holly, and Elizabeth. Fantasy IS a pain in the butt. I've got so much going on and so many characters with new creatures that haven't been used before and it's set in the 1990s... I could go on and on why the set up is so hard. I didn't want to bog down the forum with a huge post, bu...

Re: Samuel Langhorne Clemens or Mark Twain?
Well, pen names can be useful to authors who want to keep their privacy or jump into another genre that might make their regular fans feel betrayed. (e.g. if King suddenly felt like doing YA romance)

Re: Small Publishing Firm for the Self-Published
I know that most agents don't want to hear about your self-publishing. If you've managed to sell thousands of books, then they MIGHT talk to you, but they say the bigger publishing houses won't do a 'second' press of a book that was self-pubbed unless it's phenomenal (think Eragon. I think it's the ...

Re: Urban Fantasy
Thanks, Nick. I had read Wiki initially and that's what made me go 'but is MINE that?' but I guess it is if I were to compare it to other book series out that that you listed (from Wiki) since mine is a similar situation.

Urban Fantasy
I've been trying to figure out if I'm supposed to be listing my book as an Urban Fantasy or just Fantasy. To be Urban, it's to be set in a city. My teenagers are in a city. It's on a secret island, but it's a city. Also, it is set in NOW, not the past, and they travel to the human world and mix and ...
