Re: Are critiques,

Finding or creating a vibrant writing group is golden! Finding a great writing partner is also fabulous. It helps also if -although there will likely always be some writers in a group that may be more or less advanced or experienced than others- no one is so far less or more experienced that it's no...

Re: why love story doesn't always equal romance novel

Great point. Love -and not just romantic love- is a potent element in many genres. I really like cross-genre novels in that they have so many elements and don't get stuck in a (too often) repeating pattern.

Re: The art of the one sentence synopsis

Ha! One sentence as in it includes the character, plot, and the ending? ??? Umm... "An innocent girl gets her self and survives otherworldy entanglements by a maturity that is forced upon her and morphs into a pretty magical human life after all." or '"Oh no' turns and twists and all is well in the ...

Re: Quill Publishes on Amazon

Carl/Quill, Congrats!!! And, like others here, thank you for your generosity in sharing your ongoing experiences. Together we can learn to lift this (self-publishing) ship off the ground well. (All the difference from the wobbly sci-fi space ships of ye early movies where you could see the strings a...

Re: Major Blunder with New E-Book

Just my two cents, but I find I read a lot of long books, like the Game of Thrones series or Harry Potter. But here's the thing: I LOVE a long book if it's good. On the other hand if it's not, it's not going to keep me. But since you have gone the self-publishing route, and because you hold a strong...

Re: Oh Crap Breast Cancer

And then the BIG test: the one that says, did I *really* make it through or is it back? (usually one year but for me, 14 months). YEA! YEA! YEA! YEA! YEA! We got the news today!!!! Made it through. It's like LIFE and ART TOO have got the BIG green light. And for so many things that were on hold, let...

Re: Does anyone else have this problem?

Not certain if this will help you, but... in the past, for me anyway, whether working out a challenging piece of a novel or reworking, either way, when I've worked with a coach or a coach-partner (i.e., you support each other in the same fashion, and, specifically, in my case, I have worked it out a...

Re: **Updated**Excerpt - YA Dystopian -- Untouchable

I'm not usually a big fan of present tense, but in this excerpt, it really works and does not put me off.

The writing is wonderful: crisp, clear, full of tension. The story is so compelling. I NEED to know what happens next.

Re: What are you reading now?

I just finished Philip Roth's Exit Ghost . (The first and only book of his I have read.) This was not a book I sought out. It was on the table where I was visiting. At times, this writer is so intelligent, so erotic (without going there), and impressive... but I must say, I am glad I am not him or w...

If I "inside" jog or outside walk, I find I can work on my stories or other creative projects mentally, but if I outside run, well, I might run into something! :o
