Re: Just got a new puppy...

My writing has suffered tremendously. I've written 255 words over an entire weekend. All of those words written while hubby was romposing with pup. Despite the damage to my word count, he's a pretty cool guy. He consistently goes poo on the pad. (We're working on the whole pee thing.) He comes when...

Re: First request for a full MS! YES!

And here it is... the rejection from the Big Time agent. He called my writing "natural, atmospheric, and evocative," and called me "very talented" twice, but in the end, it didn't come together for him. He invited me to send future work. This is my first manuscript rejection, so it's pretty tough. ...

Re: Ask Nathan

Nathan - I've searched the blog and forums (thanks for the treasure trove of info!), and I haven't seen this answered, so I'm trying here. I recently signed a contract with an new e-publisher for my first book (contemporary teen romance). The e-publisher is not a self-publisher or a vanity press, j...

Re: Share Your Dreams

Oh, our actual dreams? Like the ones our minds conjure up while we are sleeping helplessly in our warm beds? Eeek, I really don't think you want me to go there. I've always had vivid, sometimes wicked dreams - sometimes I think I should write horror instead of romance LoL. My recurring dreams are th...

Re: Publishing and Social Networking

I think social networking is very important. It gets your name out there, gets your cause out there, gets your story out there...etc...etc. I do the Twitter, the FB, the Blog, and of course, I'm alwasy lurking around these here forums ;-) The only thing I don't have is a website - and I want one, ba...

Re: Does your MS go up or down in size?

UP! UP! UP! I've started a SERIOUS editing process and my MS has gone nowhere but up! First, I lost over 2K and then BAM! I gained 6K more. Seeing as how my story original (the first draft last year) started out at just over 70K and now it's up to over 85K, I'm going insane. Kidding, of course. It's...

Re: Best TV show of all time?

Oh, have we moved to cartoons? Nothing beats Rainbow Bright and Jem and the Holograms. Also, does anyone else remember the really creepy Care Bears movie with the demon/damon like child? OMG!!! Care bears!!!! I was totally sucked into that show!! And, yeah, I remember that one. My daughter actually...

Re: Ask Nathan

I had an agent, from a century old agency in New York, respond to a query on Wednesday, asking for the full manuscript. While polishing the manuscript today (Saturday), I got a request from second agency in New York for a partial (75 pages). I had been editing my manuscript for a year before I bega...

I asked Nathan this same question in the "Ask Nathan" section. Re: Editing as you go: really that bad?

I'm not too bad with grammar and spelling, my problem is leaving out little words. It, a, the, etc. I'm not the worlds fastest typist, maybe 40wpm when I'm on a roll, and so I guess my fingers just decide to skip the little words to catch up to what I'm thinking. Also, I find that editing one part ...

Re: Editing as you go: really that bad?

If I were...? *Ahem* Justine Who knows, maybe I'd be a revise-as-you-go writer. Best of luck, Ink Seriously, I actually said my name while I was reading this post. Didn't even stop, just threw it right in there. I wrote my first novel all the way through without looking back. It's been through 5 re...

Re: Creating Names

The baby book is a good idea. I like Shadow's idea too. You can use a phone book too. There's some pretty strang name's in there ;-) Your library probably had a slew of phone books, not only from your town, but the ones around you.

Re: What is writing to you?

It is what calls to me in my sleep. It is what keeps me from being able to go anywhere without a pad of paper and a pen. It is that rambling thought in my brain that never goes away. It is a need to share my story. It is gnawing at my fingers until I type it down. It is my gift. It is my curse. And ...

Re: Query WARRIOR-MONKS

Hi Matthew, I think most storylines (as with all writing, there are exceptions, but bear with me on this) follow a similar pattern: 1. Character's life is [whatever situation] as the story begins 2. Something changes this -- developed need, hitting rock bottom, outside threat, etc. 3. Character res...

Re: Query WARRIOR-MONKS

All righty....here's my stab at it. Let me reiterate my lack of being a professional in this department, but nonetheless, I hope this helps. And I am certainly no Polymath either. Okay, on with the show! 15 year old Lee is a reluctant juvenile delinquent. He doesn’t often break laws or rules himself...
