Re: What pays your rent?

I work for the largest health care company in the nation as a quality analyst.
They let me work from home and play with excel spreadsheets so i don't see myself moving on until i can support myself as a writer (sigh. Someday...)

Right? There's no way to pick. Though Mamoru definitely came to my mind when i was thinking up a response (to the now vanished original question...)

You ask a good question

well, i was a pretty big ronin warrior fan, back in the day, so you can't really go wrong with any of them.
Otherwise, how would i even choose? There are so many...

Re: Time to start a blog?

If it's something you want to do, then go for it. There's no "starting too early" with blogging. If you're looking to connect to the blogging writer community, then i'd recommend blogger since most everyone uses that and it's fairly straightforward and simple to use. But really, if you make friends,...

Ooh, i'm reading that right now! Even though i'm not very far into it yet, i've already dog-eared a page to come back to later

Re: What do you do well?

This question has killed me for days. I'm a firm believer that we should be able to come up with things we do well in multiple areas of our lives. But when it comes to writing, I'm STUMPED. What do I do well? I have no idea. maybe it just means that you're generally competent across the board? That...

Re: Your Favorite Book on the Craft

So much love here for so many great books. I'm going to throw in another one - Les Edgerton's Hooked.
LOVE that book. It really changed, for the better, how i handle my beginnings.

Re: What is your writing weakness? (Let's call this therapy)

Mine seem to switch up, depending on what i'm writing. Though i always seem to have to fluff up my descriptions, so that's a general weakness of mine

Definitely agree. I always write a rough query draft before i even start the novel draft. It helps me to keep certain themes in focus while drafting

Sorry i couldn't be of any more help, but if you do find it, let me know because judging by your description, that book sounds awesome and i'd like to read it

Re: THE WINTER OF OUR DISCONNECT (a family unplugged everything)

Yeah my whole family did this for 11 days two winters ago---it was called THE WORST ICE STORM IN HISTORY. No power for 11 days. Meh. . Hah! Snap! Yeah i agree, all things in moderation. I mean, i play a crap load of video games. And yet, i still find time to play board games with my family and hit ...

ahhh man! China Mieville is on my short list of author's to check out, since i've heard so much good, but i still haven't gotten around to any China books.

I've really got to rectify that, post-haste. Because the description listed above sounds right up my alley

Re: George R. R. Martin

I've only read the first one, but i enjoyed it very much. Though there's something that happens towards the end that just upset me so much i almost put it down. Of course, props to him for making me so upset. I haven't read the others yet since i'm trying to hit up more YA. But they're on my list of...
