When A Book Becomes a Liar

I'm reading Justine Larbalestier's book Liar . The premise of the story is that the narrator, Michah, is unreliable (which she tells us right away), and continues to lie and reveal new "truths" as you read. Although Micah starts the story by stating she’s a liar, she continues to make me fall for he...

Re: YA or Adult Novel?

Check out the site below...I'm attaching the link to the YA discussion boards. The postings at the top of the board (permanent postings) are AWESOME in helping with YA literature. It sounds like the story is YA, but if the voice is now adult, it wouldn't be YA. YA is usually told in the voice of a t...

Re: Book title inspiration!

What if you took a more unique phrase from the song like....Nothing Left to Bring Me Back or Hold on to the Hands of the Past.

I took a line from my book to help develop my title (kind of like what dios4vida said).

You could look at a theme from the book too and create something from that.

Re: YA sexy bits.

Write it the way you want to write it...don't worry about your audience. Young adults want the truth, so don't try to hide things. I worried about what I was writing for the longest time, and it wasn't until I realized that it's important to be truthful in writing (both to your audience and yourself...

Re: Submission Stories

Wildheart... The truth is that I hear so many stories of books getting picked up in two or three weeks (at least YA), that I like hearing people tell me stories of the process taking longer. That means I still have hope! It is all about waiting now, and I try to put it out of my mind...but sometimes...

Re: Submission Stories

C. Travis....I like your way of thinking! I am working on my next book and keep telling myself that if the first one doesn't sell, this one might. It's a good incentive to keep writing! SybilNelson...I'm in the same boat. My book is out with editors too. I think AOL may get a restraining order on me...

I'd Love to Read your Query...

I'm not sure this is the right place to post it, but I figure you're all looking for query/manuscript readers. If you feel this isn't where I should post, I'll come back and remove this. I'm an agented author (now on submission..eeek!) who is running a contest where I'll offer ten query critiques an...

Submission Stories

Published authors... My YA novel is on submission right now and the wait is killing me. Sadly, it didn't sell at auction in week, so now I'm waiting and stalking my e-mail to hear from my agent. I know submission times vary, but I'd love to hear any stories from published authors. How long was your ...

Re: Do you have a new blog post?

I'm looking for guest bloggers for next week while I'm on vacation. My blog gets a lot of traffic (about three hundred hits a day) both through readers from around the US and the school community I teach at (lots of teen readers). The information is below if you'd like to create a guest blog: http:/...

Re: YA Horror

Check out Pricker Boy by Scott Whinnem. It's more a ghost story, but perhaps it has some of the elements you're looking for. Christopher Pike used to write good horror novels when I was young. They were first more teen slasher type books but then he started to write some horror.
