Not an expert either, but I'll give some feedback. Please ignore if it doesn't fit. I like the story alot. This is totally my genre, and I would read this book! How fun - a budding mage at an academy for mages. I can definitely see that this would appeal to Rowling fans. I have two main suggestions....

Must they fight? Why must monkeys and bears always hurt each other? Are they not both creatures of the Universe? Can't they find a point of union, such as their nude hairy bodies, their terrible body odor, and their inability to write a decent query letter? I think monkeys and bears should sit down ...

Jen, I'm not sure what type of employment you're looking for, or how this degree with support you. Is the course expensive? Great questions - thanks. I hate the initial part - where you sit down and write, hoping that something will come out of it.
