Re: Apple Tablet Rumor: Publishers get 70%?

Apple's brilliant.

What's great about this upcoming wars isn't just the percentages, but the marketing.

I've heard Sony ads for their reader about 7 times this week so far. By association, that also is advertsiment for books and reading in general. It promotes all the right things, imho. :)

Re: My father had nothing to do with making that ship disappear.

So glad to hear your writer sensibilities were beaten out of you at a young age. That's always a good thing. :) You know, it may just be because I'm tired, but I had such trouble following your query. You definitely may want to get a second opinion on this. But I think, okay, I'm going to say what I...

Re: Holiday reading suggestions.

On the darker side, you could try Garth Nix's The Arborhsen Trilogy..it's not exactly paranormal, but it's YA darker fantasy with necromancers.

Re: Hachette and S&S to Delay Release of E-books

Personally I think lower price points for new releases is an inevitability. In this day and age the number of people willing to $25 for a new book is shrinking fast with so many other low-cost or free entertainment options available. This may delay the inevitable a little longer, but I think publis...

Re: My father had nothing to do with making that ship disappear.

You know, I thought about this all night, Rose. I was worried I'd been too hard on you. Hope I wasn't! I think I just got really thrown when the voice changed from 1st to 3rd person. I've never seen that in a query. But I really like your writing voice - very confident. And I think the first line is...

Do you write the same genre you read?

I'm curious how many people write the same genre that they read for pleasure. I definitely don't. I read fantasy - adult and YA - funny mysteries and chick lit. I write other genres, like PBs and self-help. But I absolutely love the genres I read...... Anyone else like this? Or do you tend to write ...

Re: Books and Movies Based on Them

Okay, you sold me on Wild Things.

The Road....thanks for telling me it was scary.. I watch scary movies at home, where I can turn them off and take a break. Maybe I'll wait for DVD. :)

There are alot of good movies based on books that are coming out. I'm looking forward to them.

Re: Etiquette when an agent says they're closed to submissions

Oh, goodness no. Don't do it. I know, it's tempting, but resist! They will think that you can't a. read the instructions, or b. don't respect their needs as a potential business partner No, it's hard, but definitely, absolutely wait. It's probably only a few months. Sending it now would almost guara...

Re: My father had nothing to do with making that ship disappear.

Rose, I have to agree with Nathan and J - I'm alittle confused. It sounds like there are really interesting elements here, so let me be upfront about my confusion..... First, it sounds like the book is about the father....but then it sounds like the book is about the daughter writing the book (?)......

This is really interesting. I didn't know anything about purchasing a domain. I'll have to do more research.

Re: Books and Movies Based on Them

I haven't seen either of these yet, but plan to see Wild Things over my break. I don't know about the Road. It looks scary....Is it scary? Also, I suspect it does not have a happy ending, which...well, I like happy endings. I'm glad that the Road is good though - Cormac McCarthy deserves a good vehi...

Re: Recommended Fantasy Under 150K

Oh gosh. Why would anyone want to read a fantasy book that was under 500 pages....and not part of an 12 book series? I thought that was the whole point of fantasy. :) But....you might try YA fantasy. Alot of it is just as good as adult fantasy (although maybe alittle less gritty and bloody...less se...

Whoops! Looks like I was wrong - I'd follow Nathan's advice about querying.

Sorry about that, Ryan. :)

Good luck!
