Do you have a writing routine?

I don't have a writing routine, and I'd like to develop one. I'm really curious to know what people do - how do you fit writing into your life? Do you write at certain times, or certain days, or just wait for the mood to strike? I tend to do the last one, but that doesn't always work out well, becau...

Re: What author would you have dinner with/what would you ask?

Awesome dinners. I would have never thought of Thomas Jefferson, but I'd love to meet him.

Marla, please set me a plate, too. A banquet - brilliant. :)

Awesome Marilyn. Thanks for sharing this.

Too bad it isn't a UFO. That would have been fun. :)

Re: How do you know your writing is good enough?

I agree! Don't give up! I know it can get discouraging, but let's take the worst case scenario. Let's say your writing really isn't ready yet. Well, that just means you need more practice. The history of literature is filled with people who wrote for years and then finally hit one out of the ball pa...

Re: Querying Agents

Also, I realize the perfect agent for me may not be someone I originally think is a "top pick" and vice versa - one of my "top picks" may not be the best fit for me. You know, that's a really good point. I was thinking about this, and I bet if an agent said 'yes' to me, they'd move up my list prett...

Do you prefer: Hardbacks or paperbacks?

Yesterday's blog topic made me wonder - what do most people prefer - hardbacks or paperbacks? I'm definitely pro-paperback. Paperbacks are so much easier to carry around and read. They fit in my pocket and get all nice and broken-in looking. They fit on my shelf, too. Personally, I don't like hardba...

Wow, you guys are brave. Thanks for this. :)

For the record, I don't think either of your first queries were THAT bad. Definitely promise.

I don't think I'm brave enough to post one of mine.....actually I never re-wrote them, so ha, I can't. Off the hook. :)

Thanks for sharing yours!

Re: Querying Agents

Hi Kristi, yes, I think this is a really hard one. I have random thoughts about this, none of it from my own experience. :) I hear alot of people lately saying they are querying their B or C list first, just to test the waters. This seems to be going along with a new trend toward trying to get more ...

Re: Male Protagonists in Young Adult Fiction

Well, first, I agree with Nathan - I think there's a reason why our voice picks a certain gender, and it's really hard to fight that without also fighting our voice. But, actually, I have heard the opposite - I've heard that it's easier to sell a male protagonist in YA. From what I understand girls ...

Re: What are you reading now?

I received a set of ya fantasy novels as a gift, and I'm working my way through them. They're by Percy Jackson, and they are about a young boy who is part God. The first one is called the Lightening Thief.

They're cute, light-hearted and a quick, easy read.

What a fun question. Distracts me from.....something. :)

Computer games. They work really well as a distraction, because when you sit down to write, there they are. I highly recommend them. :)

Rose, I'm so glad to hear that! That's wonderful that I was able to help. To be honest, I've been very nervous about my feedback to you - so I'm glad it was useful. You said it better than I did - I saw it more clearly as well once you said that you were trying to write a synopsis. Yes. Just a summa...

This is really interesting - thanks. It makes sense that e-books would be more accessible for short stories.

I think you make some really interesting points here.

Holiday Plans - anything fun or just shopping?

Hi, so what are folks up to for the holidays? Anything fun? Or just shopping, shopping and shopping? Going to do any writing? I just started my break from my very long schedule, so I'm going to see long-lost friends, rest, relax and sleep. Lots and lots of sleep. :) And do all of my shopping on-line...

Re: Holiday reading suggestions.

Cool - another series with angels is Sharon Shinn's Archangels series. That's pretty heavy on the romance, not dark, but not impossibly light either. :)

Have fun reading. :)
