Re: How many Characters do you have?
Two main characters, two characters who are more important than supporting characters, but the story does not evolve around them. Two more "good guy" supporting characters. The 3 villans are all supporting characters. Then about five minor characters, many of whom are only in one scene and are menti...

Re: NaNoWriMo 2012 - Prep
I have two outlines and I can't decide which one I should use for nnwm. One is a YA about all sorts of creatures from fairies, to gnomes, to unicorns. The other is an adult contemporary about an introverted college girl who is "discovered" by doing an indie movie and gets thrown into the world of fa...

Re: Where have all the Review Bloggers gone?
I've only been doing it a short time so I don't have a fan base at all
I read and review mainly what I like -- YA, mostly sci-fi and fantasy -- I'm not purposely excluding anyone.

Re: Where have all the Review Bloggers gone?
I still review, though its mainly YA.The only non-YA was because I got sent a free copy of the book (Between You & Me by Emma McLaughlin and Nicola Kraus). If someone sent me their book I'd read and review it regardless of what the genre is. I've only taken a back seat to reviewing because I've been...

The Boondock Saints ranks number 1, 2, 3 and 4 on my list. (Not the sequel. Ew.)

Re: Les Mis
I grew up going to broadway shows so I've seen in three times over the past two decades. In college I had to read part of the book -- the original one -- for a French project (comparing the translations). The length is daunting yes, but the writing in general was hard for me to get through and never...

Re: Does anyone else have this problem?
I have two jobs, one I go to twice a day: 7-9, 10-2 and 3-6. Technically I don't have any days off, but Monday I can get by with only the 10-2. I block off 8pm-11pm and give myself a certain part to edit (now I can edit chapters at a time because I'm down to minor edits). This works for me mainly be...

Re: Synopsis and Bio?
Yeah, what Hillsy said. I know when they mention the "query letter" plus a synopsis they mean what was explained...but sometimes they only mention a synopsis. I need to look back a find the agents (should have written it down!) for examples.

Re: Language Spectrum
Honestly, the word tutted is what I think would throw people. We're all writers and we naturally have a much larger vocabulary. Readers, adult or otherwise, may not understand what you're referring to. I think you should write out the dialogue like what polymath wrote out. If you said "He yelled and...

Synopsis and Bio?
I've been writing and rewriting my query letter (and getting feedback in the forum) and now as I research agents I see the word "synopsis" being used. Is that really just what the heart of the query letter is being called? Also, many mention a bio...I have no background in writing or really any "qua...

Re: Untitled Query - YA Fantasy (REWRITTEN 9/8/12)
OMG thank you, this is great feedback. The tree is in the Garden of Eden -- which is what will allow them to control everything -- and its why they're fighting over Theo. Should I change it to "Theo, access to the Garden of Eden, and the ability to control all of mankind" since I've already mentione...

All right, I've done a lot of reworking. I'm not happy with the 2nd paragraph, but I figured I'd post on here and see what you guys thoughts. Dear:______ [Opening hello sentence to personalize letter] All Jessalyn Caradine wanted was to be an ordinary. No angels. No demons. No death. She was even ok...
