Query - The Cacao Conspiracy - newest version in post 16

Edited query is in post 16 Hi everyone, I've gone through a few draft of my query and this is the latest version. I've sent it to three agents and have received 2 Rs and a no response (it hasn't been long to be fair). I'm not sure whether the query is bad, or just not to their taste. What do you al...

Re: New Direction for query for SAW IT COMING

Hi Folks! I've been queried 12 agents, gotten 5 nos, and one request for a full off my query letter. But I've realized that the thing that makes my paranormal romance different from others is the "drug dealer element." I'm trying to figure out how to put that it without getting too wordy. Here's th...

Re: Query - The Beautiful People

Neither of them suck, I think they both have good elements. I agree four MCs is too many for a query, but I think you could merge these two and show aspects of both girls' stories. Dear God, I've worked so hard on this (and I definitely think these latest efforts are miles above what I originally wr...

Re: THE ELITE (YA) -revised!

I think the second query is better overall. You show rather than tell us the story. I've made more specific comments below. NEW VERSION! Hi everyone! Thanks to everyone who gave me feedback here previously, and I have a couple of new versions to test out. Which do you like better? Or do you like pre...

Re: Query: IRREFUTABLE

My novel is finished and I'm ready to query. I think this sounds good but I would like more subjective eyes to take a look. Any and all comments welcome. Thanks in advance for your time. In his I agree about losing the italics. Apparently they don't show up in everyone's email programs, so if you'r...

Re: THE ELITE (YA)

A love triangle is not supposed to have life or death consequences, but 16-year-old Avery Hunter is about to discover that the stakes are higher when you’re the missing heir to the most powerful family in the world. Ditch the logline. You don't need it when you've got a longer explanation of the sto...

Re: CALL US LEGION YA Paranormal Thriller revision#2 below

I really like this new version of the query. I would cut the first line, but that's just me. I think you're better starting off with 'Seventeen-year-old Bram...'

Apart from that, I think this is a much better version! Good luck with the querying and with recovering from the flood.

[quote="Sanwrites"] Dear agent, Cash Flaherty is fed up with his small Texas town and the office-bound future that’s mapped out for him by his affluent parents. The heck with Business and Finance These two words shouldn't be capitalised. You probably know that and are just doing so to emphasise thei...

Re: Writing and Resolutions

I've sent out a few queries for my first completed novel. My new year's resolution is to keep querying, and start the next one! I was going to resolve to get an agent, but that's not something I can control, so I've changed to query widely.

Comps entered: 1
Partial requests: 1

The contest was my first toe in the water for this whole process. I'm about to start sending out query letters for the MS so no doubt my stats will go downhill from here. I'm going to send out a batch in the next week so we'll see what happens.

Re: About Controversialness for 8-12 readers.

For me the issue isn't so much that the hero becomes an anti-hero, it's that the ages to which the books are targeted change so much. Your first cohort of readers will probably age as you write the books, i.e. the kids that are 12 when the book is first published will probably be 18 by the time the ...

Re: Should wealthy writers win literary awards?

I'm with the others. Wealth shouldn't preclude someone from winning a literary award, if their book is good enough. I clicked the link and raised my eyes at the idea that they each needed their own floor, but awards are about the books, not who needs the money. Grants are another story, as has alrea...

Re: How often do you read your manuscript?

I'm the same as the first two commenters. I don't reread (except if I need to check a detail) because otherwise I get caught up in editing. I also think the manuscript stays fresher for me that way, so when I do read it at the end of a draft, problems jump out at me more than if I've reread the stor...

Re: Is anyone else bummed about no more page critique Mondays?

I am a bit too. It's Tuesday where I am by the time they're posted, and I like reading them over breakfast. But I usually didn't have time to comment so maybe the change will be for the better.
