Re: The Coffee Shop - JULY

Sure. My book is about a 16yr boy. He's not really a fighter, but gets himself into a lot. He ends up falling for a girl who is with a guy who treats her badly, and ends up killing himself when the girl's boyfriend sends him over the edge. From there, it takes elements borrowed from Judeo Christian ...

Re: The Coffee Shop - JULY

I'm looking for something that can be "Similar enough" to what I am doing to help me figure out if I am on the right track, without it being nearly identical. I'm looking for YA, contemporary setting, preferably male protagonist, but that's not a deal breaker so long as it's not some "I need a man t...

Re: Characters with accents

It wouldn't have been like going into a full cockney accent or anything, but more like "hafta" instead of have to or "naw" instead of not.

Re: Characters with accents

Maybe a compromise. Certain special words will get "the treatment" when the rest of his dialogue won't.

Re: Characters with accents

Hmm... something to consider, then. I don't want to remove the reader from a good experience, but I do want to add the flavor of how they say things. I've got a character I just changed (nationality, age, etc) and he sort of talks like the kicker from The Replacements mixed with (if you watch Sons o...

Re: The Coffee Shop - JULY

I tried... Unfortunately, I am looking for a good YA book or two that is not "Carry me away from my average life, you magical hunk" and also not "You're a wizard, Harry-ette" I downloaded one, and although it gets 4.5 stars on average from 135 readers, I could not help but notice the "writing flaws"...

Re: The Coffee Shop - JULY

HELP. I'm supposed to be taking a break from writing, but I can't stop doing more in my head. My first draft (very rough toward the end to get it done) is behind me, and there are lots of things I need/want to fix, etc as well as flesh out. I couldn't just take a shower without thinking up, imaginin...

Brenda,

Just yell "I swear to Cthulu, the next one that interrupts me will have their head eaten when he ascends from the murky below!"

Re: Query: The Remnant

Sadly, this format is likely to get an immediate deletion without notification. I would recommend you stick to a query format that has a known track record of working, starting with a hook, and then going into the short explanation of the story, major characters, their struggle, and components of pl...

Oh god... Driving... There are so many scenes I imagined driving listening to one of the top 4 bands I like.

Re: Do you ever sleep on it?

Paper!!! The same thing happens to me. Then it's a mad dash to find out who wins - my brain in its ever present attempt to forget, the stairs, working with the dark, to find a way to pitch me down onto my face, or the noise that will undoubtedly wake my wife or daughter, causing me to tend to them a...

Re: My Novel is finish.

I would try to get to know people here, possibly make a post for a critique partner at some point. You can burn bridges with agents/editors fast if you send them things that are not close enough to finished. You may think it is ready, but I have not met many writers who are good at evaluating their ...
