Re: Forum Suggestions Box

Hi Mr. Bransford, Is there a way to add what's called a "lo-fi" interface to the forums? My computer is very old and Internet is very slow, and sometimes the pages don't load correctly (I have to "refresh" several times). On some other forums, which I believe run on the same software, they have a "l...

Re: How do you interact with your fave authors online?

I follow many authors on Twitter, and have formed a loose friendship with several - Jodi Meadows, Tahereh Mafi, Kiersten White, Myra McEntyre, Stephanie Perkins, Beth Revis. But then there are authors, who honestly have a lot more followers who I follow more passively - Cassandra Clare, Maureen Joh...

Re: Blog sites "2.0"-style vs. Old School Hosts?

Wow, Collectonian, thanks for the very in-depth (and uh...a little over my head) reply! Keyboard-snafu with "it's not the Wall Street You." I meant to type "It's not the Wall Street Journal one day and the E Street Journal the next." ;) I think I get the background of all this, although lease...

Re: The Dream Agent

I don't know how much you can really know until you actually have a conversation with the agent. You can definitely get a sense of someone through how they present themselves online and the other projects they represent, but I think it's really important to wait and see what happens. Definitely go ...

Re: New York Comic Con?

1. ARC stands for Advance Reader Copy. They're unfinished (final copy edits aren't in) galleys of books that get sent out to reviewers and publicity reps. Since I'm a book blogger, I tend to get more of these than most people. If you ever get one, hold onto it, they're rare. And never buy one on eb...

Re: Most efficient mode of outlining?

Thanks for everyone's advice! Right now I have on my hard drive a .txt file with a full list of the projects for which I've gotten ideas for, and about a 1-paragraph summary under each title. From that point I'm trying to expand those mini-summaries into a beginning, middle, and end. I have a LOT of...

Re: New York Comic Con?

Did anyone else go to NYCC? I probably should have asked this BEFORE I went on Friday, then maybe people could have met up! Ok, so I posted part of this on my blog, and if you want to vote on which book I should review next (Of the ones I received at NYCC, Go there) But anyone remotely in the New Y...

Re: New York Observer dumps on readings

I have an idea, though. Take a couple of classes/seminars in theater, and/or go to see live plays. This is true. Anyone who plans on spending any amount of time in the public eye should take some acting classes. NOT a speech class. Public speaking is the #1 fear in the US, even above death, and Spe...

Re: Blog sites "2.0"-style vs. Old School Hosts?

Wow, thanks for everyone's replies! I very vaguely remember (and Google Bing Altavista tells me) that there were a lot of sites (albeit not "professional" by any means) hosted on Tripod, Angelfire, and GeoCities, with GC (formerly) being the largest in user base by far. For most folks who don't want...

Re: P.O. boxes in query letters?

Oh? Can I ask why you would pass on an agent that requests an email query? I could see the other way around, since it slows reponses and and costs a bit of money to send the query, but I don't see the benefit to snail mail. Same here. Why wouldn't you? Especially since by doing that you will be cut...

Re: New York Observer dumps on readings

Sheesh. First of all, parents read children to sleep not because it's boring, but because it's comforting. They just don't read Go the Fsck to Sleep. I don't understand why people need to be so mean about stuff. If they don't like it, live and let live. Why be so hyper-critical? If readings a...

HUGE List of SF/F Authors Who Blog!

http://www.sfsignal.com/archives/2005/05/sff-writers-who-blog/ Granted, this list is (gasp) 6 1/2 years old (6,656 years in computer-ese)*, and I haven't had time to go through each one to see if the blogs are still updated regularly. Still, regardless of how accurate the article is today, this is s...
