Re: Game of Thrones

Oh, I didn't mean he didn't know what he was doing! I think he completely does. I just didn't get invested in an overall plot. Instead I loved certain characters, but only got to see them a couple times.

Re: Game of Thrones

Read the first one, stopped a little over half way in. Fantastic world building and character set up, but I couldn't detect an overall plot that made me invested for 800 pages plus 4 more books.

Re: Best writing advice from a CP/beta/reader?

The best advice I ever got was from *cough* you, Sanderling ;) You pointed out that while one of my main characters went through both internal and external change throughout the story, that my other main character only ever changed externally. Definitely made me rethink that plot line!

Re: How fast do you edit?

Right after I finish a project my editing crawls along because I was so happy to get to the end that it's hard to imagine going back to the beginning again. Asked to Send a Query

Nathan, I was recently a finalist in a blog competition to pitch your novel in two sentences. The winner would receive a full ms request from a literary agent. The agent encouraged the finalists to send her a standard query with the requisite 5 pages. How should I mention in my letter that I am that...
