Re: Series Novels: Why should the first one have to stand alone?

The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss is fairly recent and it is not stand alone. Well, I don't think it is. Though most books published these days are stand alone, I think.

Re: Thorough is a must! Maybe a group?

Hi everyone! The group did not work out so well, but feel free to contact the other people who have posted on this thread to try to make a group. Hopefully they are still looking and wouldn't mind a PM. I have found a partner and that should do me for now :) Good luck! that's too bad! so i am still...

Re: SENTENCE STRUCTURE

That is the longest sentence I've ever seen.

And, no, I don't think I spend a lot of time on my sentence. At least, I don't spend hours and hours going over the same paragraph. Not continuous hours anyway.

Re: SAVE THE TREES!

I tried to do it on screen, but I couldn't do as good a job without a paper support. It bothered me that I couldn't see what were the words before I edited. When you erase something on screen, it's gone, you know? (unless you use office to track modifications, but I hate that option). Now, though, ...

Re: Novel vs Story

she didn't mean short stories. she couldn't have, we are not reading any short stories in this class. lol yeah she probably has some obscure technical reason. and everything we have read has some sort of plot. even the lover by marguerite duras, where the story went back and forth in time and had an...

Re: Novel vs Story

Huh? What exactly did your teacher mean by that? I'd need to know more about what distinction she was making, how her definitions differed, before I shook my head in great confusion and said: "Huh?" lol if i knew that ... but this was after I'd turned in an essay on the Princess of Cleves and I'd r...

So you are saying a story doesn't necessarily have to have a plot? And a novel does?

Re: The magical $0.50: Why ebook economics don’t work in librari

Yeah, I thought something was off about it too. Couldn't quite put my finger on it and I wanted other people's thoughts. Omega12596 - I think libraries have some sort of special contract where they lend for a specific amount of time in specific formats, always one copy at a time. So for them lending...

Novel vs Story

So the other day my teacher made a distinction between a story and novel. She said a novel is not a story. I had a WTF moment when she said that. It seems like an artificial distinction to me. I thought (still think!) that a novel is a type of story. Is she right? If she is, why? What is a story tha...
