Re: Curious on opinions in writing styles

Why did the other writer think you should change to third person? Did the writer give you a reason? There are plenty of subgenres wherein writing in first person is the norm, a standard of the subgenre. Is this a knee-jerk reaction from another writer, or can the person make a compelling argument a...

Curious on opinions in writing styles

So, my first completed MSis written in first person POV, which I think suits the story best; but I've been advised that I should change it to third person. Most people that I know thinks I should keep it the way it's written, however I had another fellow writer tell me that she thought it would be b...

Re: What Do You Write For?

Well, I too have some experience with His sense of humor. And actually, I have a question related to this. What is your take on putting God into books? I myself don't see any harm in it, but I wonder if I'll lose readers (read: atheists) because of it. Granted, it is a fantasy novel, but some of th...

Re: Do you work on more than one book at a time?

It depends on my mood. Right now, I have one MS that I'm not touching anymore, and several that I've started. One is a follow up to my completed project, the other is a completely different book (different genre, and target age group). I have ideas for the both of them, but sometimes I want to work ...

Re: Why I Don't Tell People I Write

I've told several people that I write, but it is something Í've casually done my entire life. When I was younger, I thought about going to school for journalism, thinking it would be the best career path for some like me, who likes to write. I soon changed my mind and went for the generic label of B...

Re: YA Horror - 600 Words *Edited*

I love the changes. You cleared my confusion I had about Rajan "wanting to die". The dialogue between Rajan and October is nice, and gives you an idea of who is as a person; you know people tend to talk the same way they think. (Now I wonder if I come off as a confused person).

Re: YA Horror - 600 Words

I like the premise of the book, it's a gameshow...but as I was reading, my mind kept wondered back to the opening line. I wondered, 'why would anyone take a job to die, unless there is a chance to come back to life?'. There is a lot of discription in it, which I too had a lot of trouble with when I ...

Re: YA Fantasy "Hidden in Plain Sight" First Two Pages

Nice opening, I would love to continue reading. Within the first two pages you've left me asking questions that I hope I can answer from continuing to read like; does his father get arrested or killed? Do they have to flee the galaxy, and will the crowd figure out Megellan is his fathers child, and ...

Re: The Introduction Thread

Hello all! My name is Chavone, and I am an aspiring writer from Missouri. I've been following the Nathan's blog, as well as the forum for about six months now and finally got up the courage to create an account and start posting. It seems that this sight has more of a diverse set of people than othe...
