Re: Silly things we think about

I saw a thread where everyone can post the first line of their Nano's for critique from our fellow Nanowrimoers. I'm glad I read through the thread before blindly posting mine. Good grief. Talk about ripping it up into a million tiny little pieces, chewing it, spitting it out and crushing it into th...

Re: Your Most Random Writer's Fodder Moment

Oh wow, I have a few of these. 1. Being bullied at school. For a whole year. Without anyone ever picking up on the signs that I'm a victim. Until I happened to bump into my long time best friend, who I'd lost all contact with after she was sent to boarding school. Seeing her at school that day was p...

Re: I really need some encouragement right Now!

I'm late on the topic but I wanted to come post. I had no idea you were struggling washingtonwriter! KILL YOUR DARLINGS. Go for it. Kill your darlings. Make them suffer to make them strong. It will be worth it. Otherwise you've pushed them this far for nothing. ^This. Characters can't grow if you do...

Re: Best writing advice from a CP/beta/reader?

Best writing advice I've ever received: Your prose isn't too bad, but you do overuse adverbs quite a lot. Particularly when using tag lines for speech, it's much more effective when the reader can tell if something is said 'matter-of-factly' by the words used, than by the author telling them. On a s...

Re: Voice Problems

I know "write what you love" is an important guideline to follow. But the problem with my writing is my "voice" and to a lesser extent subject matter. Beta readers have told me that my "voice" gives them the impression that they could never take my writing seriously (not in a funny-joke kind of way...

Re: Maladaptive Perfectionism and Never-Ending Critique

So, How do I get around this problem? Has anyone else had to deal with chronic verbosity to such a level that they found it a hindrance? Has anyone found a way to get decent critiques without joining a critique group? Are there any places you know where people critique quite happily without requiri...

Re: I am a bit ticked at people with no imagination!

:x I have been trying to talk to some folks on a physics forum concerning my world building. I described my idea this way. There are two realities in existence 1. Our reality(a Younger also fetal like universe living inside another) 2. My Alternate Reality(Parent Universe) 3. Separated By a M-Brane...

Echoes of the Unseen YA Apocalyptic Horror 250 words The man seated at the narrow table didn’t look as one would imagine a long-suffering, mentally disturbed murderer would. He was handsome, with a pleasant and somewhat boyish face. His wild golden mane had begun to retract along his temples and for...

I'm interested!!! I'm writing in a similar genre so I'd LOVE to help you out! I don't have any experience with publishers or agents, though, but I can still be a second pair of eyes if you need it. I have x amount of years of writing behind me, I've got a diploma in creative writing, and I've been d...

Writing rituals

More often than not, I'll find myself procrastinating either by indulging in forums, or facebook, or fanfiction, before cracking down and actually writing. This can last from minutes to days (to weeks, even). My latest craze of procrastination is to find one of my older novels and submit the first p...
