Re: Title Confusion

It depends. Sometimes, its fine, particularly if it is still not that well used a title and you are in different genres. However, if it is The Enemy Within from your signature, I'd honestly recommend changing it. That title has been very well used, including multiple books (fiction and non-fiction),...

Re: For all those who care to know.....

I believe you have to have a livejournal to view one. If you want a public blog, wordpress or blogspot is probably a better option for you... Not necessarily. LiveJournal is perfectly fine if you want a public blog with options to go private. Washingtonwriter either set the post to friend only or p...

Re: Queries

Take a breath hon :-) Why not query in August? I've never heard anyone ever say not to query an agent in August...I've heard warnings about querying in December, but that's due to the embarrassing NaNo influxes that often flood agents' boxes then :-P If you work is ready for querying, I'd go ahead a...

ROFLMAO, awesome line to follow up where she was glancing at!

Re: 250 Word Sharathon--post the opening of your WIP

Collectonian , I like the picture of her watching the boys laugh in the distance. I like how you've already set her up as an archetypal outsider. I would recommend that you read the sentences out loud. Some of them sounded awkward in my head, like maybe a comma was missing. Also, there are a few ty...

Re: 250 Word Sharathon--post the opening of your WIP

From my young adult supernatural romance (set in Japan): Chattering students filled the halls of Saigonohi High School after the final bell, eager to escape campus before the heavy gray clouds above carried out their implicit threat. The pairs of students assigned class duties for the week worked qu...

Re: Google+

Agreed. Too bad they didn't implement it sooner. Even still, Facebook has just become so exhausting. Like I said, G+ isn't really the anti-Facebook. It's a lot closer to Facebook than Facebook was to Myspace. Errr....its been around since like 2008 :-P One interesting thing I've read with Google+ i...

Re: Chapter 2 is now complete!

Too long: reader starts going "where is the end already" Too short: reader goes "WTF?" when they see the chapter is over.... Seriously, its about that arbitrary :-) Some novels are broken into hundreds of little 1-2 page chapters, others into just 3-4 ginormous ones, while many float somewhere in be...

Re: Google+

It could use better placement. To set up friend lists you have to go to Friends then Manage Friend List. From there you can create lists and put folks in lists.

Re: Google+

Yep, I do it all the time. You can post to friend lists, a mix of specified friends and lists, networks, etc. Been a feature for probably a year, maybe longer. If you have that many friends, I guess it would be easier to group people on add than retroactively go do it, though how many folks would yo...

Re: Google+

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love Google and G+ is neat, but so far it's really just a Facebook-but-not-quite. Google has filled in some neat gaps (such as posting status updates to specified Circles) that Facebook never got finessed enough to try. I saw something like that mentioned in a revie...

Re: Introduction and a few beginner questions

If they are asking you for how much you want to "invest", run do not walk away. You should never have to pay to find an agent or work with the agent. The agent is paid with a percentage of royalties when the book is sold to a publisher, not before. An agent is a partner you work with who works to se...

Re: Have query letters changed?

From my readings here, at Query Shark, Evil Editor, agent chat sessions etc etc, I'm inclined to say mostly yes. Today what I see heavily emphasized is a query that is basically a salutation (personalized always), then straight into a 250 or so word "pitch", followed by a single paragraph with title...
