Re: I'm moving out!

Perhaps a Cocker Spaniel? They generally get to 30-35 lbs. We had one when I was a teen and she was a terrific guard dog. Knew the difference between guest and stranger, and had no qualms about facing down someone she saw as a threat. Shelties and border collies also are great choices, though borders...

Re: I'm moving out!

Yay for moving out! I remember when I did that (though at a younger age), it was awesome and scary at the same time. From the safety side of things, advice my dad gave me that has worked well for me. * Be aware of your surroundings when out and about, especially if its dark out or not too many peopl...

Re: Sharing plot ideas that you couldn't/wouldn't write yourself

I've often had ideas for what I think would be great thrillers or suspense novels featuring various serial killers with some couple or couple to be trying to stop him/her. Alas, when I started thinking too much about how the killer might "pull it off", I'd freak myself out LOL I've also found that i...

Re: Do you keep a journal?

My personal blog long ago replaced my written journal, having two big benefits over the paper one: redundant backups and I can actually read it again after a day. My handwriting sucks! I plan on doing a printed, bound copy of some of my older entries, as well, so there is an offline copy as well. I ...

Re: Do You Use LinkedIn?

Never did see much value in LinkIn, or most of the others. I think LinkedIn was supposed to be for "business" contacts, but it never struck me as a very professional appearing site nor did I see how it was much better than just emailing the folks I know. The only social network I really use is Faceb...

Re: How many books do you read per week (or month)?

I guess going by average, 30-40 per month, since I read 350-450 a year. It depends, though. Some times I'll go a week without reading anything, then "binge." I read a mix of stuff, though at least half is manga, which I can easily read 10-20 volumes of in a day. :-P I also have some favorite novels ...

Re: Query - In the Shadow of the Dragon King

Hi :-) I think your query projects the voice of your story well, and it has some nice flow in terms of pacing, but leaves out some details needed to answer the basic questions: who is the main character, what challenge does that character face and why must it be that character, and why should we car...

Re: Pen names

I haven't had the problem since I'm unpublished, but I do plan to do all of my publications under a pen name since I work for a state agency. Rather play it safe than sorry, especially in a somewhat conservative area and when I write some, uh, racier stuff :-)

Re: Formatting issue .....

I suspect the reason they suggested not using tabs was for easier quick reformatting, if needed, to meet a particular submission guideline. I like my paragraphs indented as well, so I use the paragraph format in Word to set it to automatically indent. I set the "Normal" style to do a half-inch inden...

Re: Word Count?

When I'm first writing the story, I don't worry about word count unless I'm trying to meet a specific goal for the day (i.e. doing NaNo). My primary goal is to get the initial story written. In the second edit, I still don't really "focus" on word count, rather I'm looking at the big issues (cohesiv...

Re: How much cursing can I get away with?

Your story sounds awesome! We can get lynched together LOL One of my WIPs, Fall From Grace , features one of the original, and highest, archangels having a love affair with the oldest son of Satan :-D In said novel, several angels discuss what "really" happened versus what was written. Yeah, not lik...

Re: Do you have an author page on Facebook?

Just to be clear: it does cost money to set up the author page on FB in the first place, doesn't it? Does anyone remember how much it is? And are you able to pay normally, or do they insist on drafting a credit card/bank account? No, it does not cost any money at all to set up a page in Facebook. I...
