Re: Writer's Block

I find that editing helps me too. I just can't keep writing if what comes first is crappy and doesn't work right.

Re: Men and Fiction

For my husband his lack of reading stems from a lack of time. He works 60ish hours a week, coaches our son's football team, bowls 2 days a week, blah blah I could go on, and by the time he picks up a book it only takes a page or 2 for him to be happily drooling all over the wonderfully written pages....

Re: Keeping Boys Reading

He is advanced for his age, he is in the gifted class this year and doing very well in Math but not so well in English and spelling. I have been exploring your blog and am very excited to finally have an idea of what to get him to try to read. My husband hates to read, unless it is something busines...

How do you write?

Do you write your story in order Chapter 1 - Chapter ?? Or do you write random scenes and then piece them together? I started out with Chapter 1 and got to 5 and am pretty happy with it so far. But I found myself getting stuck and not knowing where to go next and a lot of days I ended up writing not...

Re: Keeping Boys Reading

I haven't read all of this so IDK if it has already been mentioned but... I have an 8 year old boy who HATES to read. It has been a homework requirement for the last few years and a constant struggle to get him to do it. However one day he discovered Diary of a Wimpy Kid and that problem no longer e...

Re: sub-plot question

Kaitlyne, with the dream about her mom basically mom is just telling her that she is the one who is going to figure out this mystery. I am not totally satisfied with how it is written yet, so I know changes are coming. Hubs just seems to think I should scrap it all together. c.ska, I'm like you I ha...

sub-plot question

In my current wip the main character is trying to solve a mystery that surrounds something traumatic that happened to her. One of the major clues she has comes to her during dreams of said traumatic event. I have a scene (that I think is relevant and important) that my husbands thinks is (in his wor...

Re: researching dialects

thank you to everyone who replied.

Polymath that was very helpful. I figured there would be a lot of mixed up sentences and such, I just wasn't sure how to actually put it to work for me.

This character doesn't speak a lot but I do feel that when he does it is very important. Hope I get it right.

Re: What is more impressive?

I'd like to be the one that creates 1 great novel a year. I am a picky reader, and though a lot of times I will force myself to finish a book no matter what, if it is just an OK book it tends to take me 5x as long to read it. I am more impressed by 1 great novel then seeing some authors name on a sh...

Re: Pure Pain or Pure Ecstasy??

I guess I am having the same problem. I am trying to write a particularly gruesome scene of my story and I keep avoiding it. Partly because I am having a hard time getting into the villains head and partly because I don't like what I am doing to my heroine.
