Re: Personal Rejections

The exact quotes were: "There's some good, smooth prose in these pages - in fact, the quality of writing is better than most of the material that crosses my desk. I also thought these pages had a great narrative pace." and " While I admired much about the writing, I'm afraid I wasn't..." The problem...

Re: Personal Rejections

Initially, I thought it would be the writing too, but one of the agents who called for a full ms said it was "better than most of the stuff that came across my [her] desk". So I'm going to guess it's not the writing... is it? @ Krista: That could be possible. I've been getting my share of requests, ...

Personal Rejections

I've been getting a few personal rejections lately... they all say the same things, mostly along the lines of "great stuff, made me pause, but ultimately, I had to pass."

Is that a sign that I should change something? Rewrite? Re-word?

Re: How old are you?

I don't know Margo... I'm suspicious of 40. The last lady I knew who turned 40 turned purple on her birthday and grew a tail and three extra ears (in pairs too...)

Re: Rejection Stats

@ February: Sound like you're doing well, but if you are still unsure, why not post an excerpt here comments? Seeings as there's a lot of writers here, one of them must be able to point out something useful, right?

Re: Rejection Stats

Did the agent who passed say what it was about character development that made her say no? Yeah. She said she loved the writing and that "in fact, the quality of writing is better than most of the material that crosses my desk". But she also said she couldn't empathize Claudia very much and wants t...

Re: Rejection Stats

Thanks wildheart! love the description =) my roommate's having a field day over it. (my real name is pronounced like "Shoo-in", but it's spelled like "Chew-on". In my native language, my name means "white", but in English, it just connotes that I'm a rubber bone. I think "Blanche" sounds better, don...

Re: Writing yourself into a corner...

'Stand back, you Neanderthals!' Margot shouted, defying the congregation/mob. 'Or I'll put you in my book!' HA! I actually do have a tee shirt that says: CAREFUL OR YOU'LL END UP IN MY NOVEL. I get many many strange looks when I wear that in public. It's sooooo true; I do mine the more interesting ...

Re: Rejection Stats

It's easier if you call me Blanche. My real name means the same thing, just in a different language and harder to spell. I see what you're saying Hillary. Thinking back, it probably wasn't a good idea to query agents one and two when i did. I'd originally intended to send those out to test the water...

Re: Rejection Stats

Anyone else find themselves making revisions with each partial/full request rejection? I always think my novel is as good as its going to get until I get a rejection... and then I spend the next few days staring at it wondering where it went wrong... After Mr. One : Rewrote half of the first chapter...

Re: Ask Nathan

Hi Nathan, I'm confused. When an agency posts "Please be sure to query only one agent at this agency. We will not review queries sent to more than one of us." Do they mean simultaneously or ever? In other words, if I queried one agent from the agency some months ago, can I still query another agent,...

Re: Too much for my poor little nerves

W comes to w, do school work/work work. Two days ago, I was ready to quit when I realized how many rejections I've accumulated in the last few weeks... but then around the corner came finals week, and now I've got more urgent things to worry about than query rejections. ("Dear God, How about a trade...
