Re: Writing Sex Scenes

The changes we think take place are real. Sex changes people. It changes their attitudes, motivations, their outlook, mood, their perception. It works as a catalyst for character growth. Sex also works as a reason for betrayal or loyalty. It can give a character a reason to die for another. It can g...

Re: Writing Sex Scenes

I did a blog about why to write it. The link is in my signature, you'll have to scroll down a few to get to it. I think that sex is an important relationship building tool. You can also destroy relationships with it. Characters will do and say things during sex that they won't otherwise. You can rev...

Critique Partner got a contract.

I know a lot of us are pre-published and sometimes we wonder if it's ever going to happen. I know I have been lax in submitting, partly because the possibility seemed remote. But now I have a reason to get with the program. One of my critique & Blog partners got a contract. Things don't feel real un...

You would think parents wouldn't do things like that. But they do. Case in point; race car drive Dick Trickle.

Re: Do you keep your drafts?

I save over as I'm doing edits, though I do save to two sticks and the drive. If I have an old draft printed somewhere, it's unintentional; once I've done what I'm going to do with the crits, they are recycled. I can imagine someone cutting and pasting themselves into a looney bin surrounded by flas...

Re: (This thread is not yet titled)

Title first with me. No title, no focus, the story could wander off in any direction. With a title, the characters and I are on the same page.

Re: Speed Dating of a Different Kind: Choosing a Writer's Group

I've been in a crit group with two romance writers for over seven years. Romance writers, provided they are not crazy, are fantastic critique partners. The romance world has tons of education events, online workshops, local chapters of RWA and so forth. Romance writers, at least the ones I've met, b...

Re: Running Dialogue

If you must have only dialog, make it heated, or ominous or...something. If it's just imparting information to the reader, it's going to be slow. Spice it up. Make it a charged atmosphere; tension, sexual or otherwise. Get some emotions going. On of the hardest things for me to hear in crit group is...

Re: W.I.P. Feedback: How Much Is Too Much?

I belong to a critique group and run everything through it as I'm writing. They read mine and I read theirs and we all have a great time marking up the pages. I take some of their advice, but not all. It's my story after all.
