Re: Query: BLACK TRIANGLE

It sounds like a very interesting story. I think I liked your first version slightly better than your latest updated version. The hook was pretty good on the first one. I agree with the other poster android, that the first sentence in your latest version is just too long. Try to rephrase that as an ...

Re: How much do you pay for getting your manuscript proofread?

Thanks folks! When to engage a critiquer; prior to submission for publication consideration. When to engage a copyeditor; when a manuscript is ready for submission, prior to typesetting or publication layout and design. When to engage a proofreader; after typesetting or publication layout when a gal...

How much do you pay for getting your manuscript proofread?

I just finished a non-fiction work, which is about 24000 words in length. The proofreader I found on craigslist charged me $25/hour. He estimated 6.5 hours for the work after sampling 10 pages and finding the work to be "pretty clean". He ended up taking 9 hours for the job. I am fairly happy with h...

Re: Can you write anywhere?

I can write anywhere, provided no one talks to me or disturbs me. One time I was writing and my mom came and asked me something, I was unable to pay attention to what she was saying and almost got pissed off at her :) However as far as time is concerned, I observe that my writing is of best quality ...

Re: Genre hopping

Yes, write whatever you enjoy writing. If you are having a good time writing it, chances are that the reader will have a good time reading it. Base your writing based on what you are passionate about. Just write for yourself, and don't worry if people will like it or not. I agree with the other post...

edit: "Truth and fiction," please note that the current published length of the book is about 35,000 words. The book has been revised and expanded since the query was initially posted. Namaste.

Re: The Iron Pillar: Women's Fiction Query

Hi Melissa, It sounds like a very interesting story. But is there a way you can capture the essence of the novel in just one paragraph instead of three? It seems a tad too long to me. Also it appears as if you are giving away too much information (Kashi's death). If I were a reader at a bookstore, I...

Re: First 250 words: YA fantasy

It's a pretty good opener. Sounds like the character is waiting for some kind of reply to an application or something that concerns her future. I think a lot of people would be able to relate to the character (being concerned about one's future etc.), so that's great too. There is an amount of suspe...
