Question About Query

I'm in the process of editing a book that's sort of like the Wonder Spot, only the events are more connected. It spans 12-13 years and I'm wondering how I would go about querying it. I know queries focus on specific problems but I can't think of one specific thing that would stand out. The book star...

Re: Running in Flip-Flops - Back for More!!! (Page 2)

My favorite is the second one, but I wish you didn't give away the ending. Maybe you can hint it, because now that I know what happens I feel less enthusiastic about reading it. Senegal sounds adventurous -- for lack of better word. I've been to Egypt before, which was a third world country in parts...

Re: TREASON - Historical Mystery

I like it. Just get rid of the last line. Unless you've had previously published books the agent will assume that this is your first novel.

Re: A Lullaby: giving it another shot

That sucks right. I had no idea what my book was about until I sat down and tried to write a query. When you have to emotionally distance yourself defining a genre becomes even more difficult. In my book the protag deals with a lot of issues but ultimately I had to boil it down in the query to a rom...

Re: A Lullaby: giving it another shot

I've been writing for maybe 3 years now. I've finished two very bad novels and one decent novella that I'm trying to expand into a novel. I have written a lot of short stories and I have so many unfinished novels it drives me insane thinking about when I'm going to finish them. I have written a lot ...

Don't give up, your last attempt was much better. Quill really hit on the important things.

Re: Query: BLACK TRIANGLE

When college students Travis Maguire, Lexie Collins and her older brother Burke find the wreck of a black triangular UFO in Washington, D.C.’s Rock Creek Park, Travis takes an enigmatic souvenir and Burke steps into a glowing grid in the floor. This sentence is kinda long. I suggest re-wording it s...

I agree with JT Shea. Great opening. Don't worry about the Hunger Games. Suzanne Collins took most of her story from Battle Royale any way. Your story sounds more like The Village if anything.

When college student Travis Maguire chases his dog into Washington, D.C.’s Rock Creek Park , he finds more than the dog cut straight to the point --he discovers a Nikon does the brand matter? just say camera with digital knowing that they're digital photos don't matter either photos of a UFO crash....

Re: The Iron Pillar: Women's Fiction Query

Whoa, that's kinda sad. Like Nicholas Sparks sad. I think it would be best to either leave his death out if it happens really late in the novel, or keep it in if he dies within the first 100 pages. Either way I would be interested, but just saying something bad happens makes me wonder...if they get ...

I wonder why colleges don't offer classes on query writing. Then Professors could teach Ms. Snark or Querk Shark like they do Shakespeare and Lord Byron.

Re: A Lullaby: giving it another shot

New Mexico is my writing station although I've been all over. Pre-apocalyptic is basically a society that is on the fringe of some crazy event, whether it be the threat of nuclear war or a virus outbreak. It's a term I've heard used maybe once, like New Adult. I love cynical narrators btw. They are ...
