Re: Blogfests - yea or nay?

I think blogfests can be helpful when launching a new blog or when you need a boost of new viewership. They can be pretty time intensive, so I try to only focus on a couple per year (full disclosure, I've only been blogging for about a year - haha). Also, keep your expectations realistic. There's no...

Re: What is your writing weakness? (Let's call this therapy)

Mine is deciding what NOT to put on the page. You know those amazing scenes that are so powerful to read because of what the characters DON'T say or do? Where they think one thing, but without any written indication the readers knows they really feel the exact opposite? Yeah...I want to be able to w...

Re: Urban Fantasy vs Paranormal

The advice so far has been great. Personally, I think it sounds like you're leaning a little more toward urban fantasy. I don't think it matters as much if it takes place in a city vs. rural environment, as long as it's set in our basic world with "fantastical" elements. Don't worry about ...

Re: YA vs. Adult

I write adult and MG stuff, but I tend to skip over the YA audience. I'm not overly interested in writing about all the emotional angsty-ness that often appears in YA. I'll pick up a YA book to read if it looks good, though I prefer adult novels or a fun MG book in general. I think you get much more...

Re: Novel soundtrack?

when I really want to rock the writing I put on movies that are similar to my books - Harry Potter marathons, LOTR marathons, and others like Inkheart, Stardust, Narnia, The 10th Kingdom, etc. are my favorite things to write to. Um...Brenda, I totally heart your movie collection! When I'm writing, ...

Re: MG Boy Books vs MG Girl Books

Well, I am a girl, so I can only answer from my perspective but I wouldn't be turned off at all by action scenes! I love 'em. Who wouldn't want an "Ender's Game" for girls?! ;) I'd also never NOT read a book because the MC was a guy. I would think that feeling goes both ways (guys wouldn't...
