Re: Query Critique - OSAA

Oh, forgot to mention that I really like your story concept so I do think you have a strong idea there. :)

Re: Query Critique - OSAA

Other people have already commented on the grammatical/clarification issues that I noticed. As far as the length, I was wondering if you considered if it could be more than one book - a la Twilight. Maybe you have enough plot that you could break it into several books (if you think you can't cut it ...

Re: Querying Agents

I'm going to a SCBWI event in late Jan. where they will have 2 agents (who rep YA) read first pages and give their thoughts. I'm excited about it and hope to gain some more insight before I start the process. Mira and Casnow - thanks for your feedback. I have a list of about 30 now that I'd be reall...

Re: Holiday reading suggestions.

I enjoyed HUSH HUSH by Becca Fitzpatrick. No zombies - it's angels. Went out and bought Hush Hush. Just love the cover. I'm actually buying Hush, Hush tomorrow. I've heard it's great - and one of my critique partners who read it just suggested I use it as a comparison in my query (although my book ...

Yeah, THE BOOK THIEF is amazing!
I don't know if he has written other books but I don't see how you could possibly top the whole death as a narrator thing.

Querying Agents

For those of you that have been through the query process, how many agents did you query at a time - assuming you didn't send it to your whole list at once - and did you send to your favorites first or wait on those? If you'd like to say how it all worked out, I'd love to hear that too. Just curious...

Re: The Internet and Background Research for Writing

My current ms partly takes place in a country I've never seen - so I've done a ton of research on it through Google. I took a break a few months back to write another novel that takes place somewhere I used to live so I didn't need to do much research at all and finished it in 6 weeks. Now I'm back ...

Re: Favorite writing distractions

Reading blogs and researching agents are my top 2 writing-related distractions. I'd say NFL football but my team is so horrible this year that I consider it more self-torture than a distraction. Also, playing Mario Party w/ the hubby and kids although my hubby shows no mercy :)

Re: Rhetorical Question...question

Before Nathan's head explodes, let me put this out here - this is not about starting queries with rhetorical questions. I promise, I have read the blog topic on this: http://blog.nathanbransford.com/2006/10/should-i-use-rhetorical-questions-in-my.html. Again, for Nathan...put the knife down...this ...

I read across a variety of genres, including a lot of literary fiction, but write urban fantasy YA (and the occasional PB).

Re: Etiquette when an agent says they're closed to submissions

Um, don't do it. If they think you can't follow submission guidelines, they might be less inclined to think you can follow directions if they take you on as a client. I have two agents on my Query list that are currently closed to submissions, so I'm just checking their sites occasionally to see if ...
