Re: THE WYRM FIEND a YA Urban Fantasy UPDATED
Comments. Somewhat short since my idiot computer ate my first reply. Is the Fraternity the sort of toothless group that spoon feeds its new recruits? Because that is how, go kill this immobilized creature to prove your worth reads to me. Now I am guessing that the test is quite dangerous even with t...

Re: Figments - YA Urban Fantasy Query
I am..confused. You almost had me with the whole the day her father died is the day thing, but since I have no insider knowledge of your book the name drop is meaningless to me, as is Leander as a character, if you don't flesh him out. I find myself wishing for some connective tissue tying the first...

Re: WYRM FIEND query YA Urban Fantasy
Uh, I am going to go out on a limb here and say "wyrm" is a fairly common fantasy term. No one in to this sort of story should need to look it up.

Re: Query: Sacrificial Magic
Thanks D.S. I appreciate your time.
Can I ask why "surrounding environs" bothers you? My MC is an academic sort of guy and I wanted to capture his rather formal way of speaking. Is it not working for you in that sense?
Thanks again.

Re: Query: Sacrificial Magic
Thanks very much. Since I think the first rule of accepting crit is shutting up, I will only say that the reference to orange is from Nathan's article on query personalization. I've read every single query shark entry and if I were querying her I would certainly put that at the bottom. Kristin Nelso...

Re: Chasing Miracles - Christian Fantasy
Well, her query says it's fantasy, not YA. I don't write YA myself so I don't know if the age of the character automatically makes it YA, but I suspect not.

Re: Chasing Miracles - Christian Fantasy
Sometimes we all need a break away. Writing and revising makes us weird after awhile! I like to watch bad t.v. at those times.

Re: Chasing Miracles - Christian Fantasy
No problem. 100,00 strikes me as acceptable, certainly. Don't worry. You will get the format down. We all will, if we keep trying.

Re: Chasing Miracles - Christian Fantasy
#2 I disagree. It's fantasy and fantasy has a little more leeway. What I have read suggests it can push 120k, though the shorter the better, of course.
50k is also too short for most places. 80k--120k

Re: Query - Griffinborn
Rory Balenford was a roguish young thief who was never sure of his place in the world till he picked the wrong pocket and got drafted. Twelve years later, he’s a young captain in the Ducal Guard of the Griffin Lords. Is the name drop needed? I know sometimes too many names early on can put people o...

Query: Sacrificial Magic
I addressed this to Nathan so I could practice personalization. Have at! Thank you in advance (this is actually like 350 words, which just skates by for word count on a query.) *** Mr. Bransford, I am a regular participant on your forums. I appreciate the time you take out of your busy day to encour...

Re: Query:Forever Young-YA Urban Fantasy (version 2)
For me, the premise just does not work on a base level. The parents are keeping this big secret--and even with the revision I didn't understand that whole thing--but they haven't invested in a little basic forgery? This kid is thirteen. It's not an age known for its diverse skill sets. I know this i...

Re: Chasing Miracles - Christian Fantasy
I totally am horrible at this. My book is so plotfilled and twisty with sub-stuff that it's hard to smoosh it down into one little letter. I have been reading websites and books and I still have never been great at condensing and answering that question of "what's it about". So here goes ...
