Re: Female Characters
I would spend time thinking about what motivates women. Develop more history for your female characters so you have a sense of from where they come. What do they want out of life, what are their hang ups, what are their relationships like? The problem with that is then they seem less like a woman a...

Re: Female Characters
I think my biggest problem is I deal with homosexual relationships. So technically I have girls? But not really. >_> I just wrote a little with Adelaide, and really, she's an idiot. But I love her, because that's part of her character. To be bubble-headed. I mean, I just blinked at the book and went...

Re: Female Characters
I did that with Bradley and he ended up gawking at his wife's chest. XDWatcher55 wrote:Pretend you're a guy when you write them, or at least try to see your female characters through a guys eyes.

Re: Female Characters
I have the same problem. I have a lot of male characters, all richly developed, and maybe one or two girls who rarely get a scene. You would think a female writer would have more girls! But I understand guys more than girls. I think it's a common problem. ;) I can't offer help, just a comparative sh...

Re: Does Defining your Genre Help or Hurt?
Dios4vida, I'm sorry, but I just thought of how cool a historical romance with aliens would be. :o I think per book it's good to define the genre, but don't put yourself in a box. It's like how on the doll forum I used to say I was only going to collect this or that, and that I would NEVER EVER have...

Re: #YASaves, Twitter Response to WSJ Article
Hey, this actually gives me hope. If that's the kind of stuff that's out there, then my books actually have real chance of not needing to be toned down! :D Seriously, though, how old is this lady and in what world did she grow up? Shelterville? I mean, I grew up in a closet, but damn, even I know th...

Re: How Price-Conscious Are You When Buying Books?
I shop around, definitely. Because I know that I can get it cheaper online with my BN discount. :3 I have such a small 'must have now\following' list anyway, so if I see something I want to buy in the store, I can usually find it cheaper either online or from a reseller. Recycled books are much more...

Re: Hybrid POV
The only time I do it is with journal entries. I do it when Bradley is writing a journal entry, and it suddenly shifts to someone else's journal entry in mid-entry, making the reader wonder who is writing because it's suddenly eloquent and yet holds the same theme that Bradley had been writing about...

Re: What's in a Name?
Dani, I just used wikipedia and a word scrambler for alien tree names. I think Nick Jr works fine. :D Also, on my very first book (which one day I will rewrite, Tema, I am not forgetting you) I got his name from my half-blind staring at a slide show in school. Ternary came up on the board in a datab...

Re: Out of curiosity
I like to say I'm an advocate for Watchers and Nephilim everywhere. It's why I write so many books with them in it.
But technically, I'm a grab bag fiction girl. I have a little bit of everything including Victorian Steampunk\Cyberpunk. And I'm beginning to dabble in Sci-fi, too.

Re: What's in a Name?
I just sit there and go, "Okay, tell me your name." So far that seems to work. XD I also get hints in things so I wikispiral until something comes up. Currently, what I was calling Peter (who never liked the rest of "his" name or anything else for that matter that I tried to make "him" into) has now...

Re: Are We Too Suspicious?
Reminds me of the Java programming forums. I was just learning Java, and like an idiot, I thought I might get help there. Boy was I wrong. They jumped on me. Belittling me and calling me names. Yelling at me /how dare I come to their forum and ask such retarded questions/ that /I should have a book/...

Re: Are We Too Suspicious?
There is one type of moderation of post count I find valuable. At DoA they restrict marketplace access and group order leadership based on post count, and they moderate each forum to make sure your posts have /valued content/ and are not one liners. If they are, they delete the number of posts on th...

Re: fake ads in a novel about ads
This is just an aside but, have you ever taken a social marketing, psychology class, or even desktop publishing solely for advertising? They explain how those things are setup to entice people to look at them. It might help you develop them as well. Like what colors to use with what to make you hung...
