Re: Do you have a new blog post?

Writing with a partner? People often voice their curiosity about how we make that work. It's certainly a challenge, some days more than others, particularly for Larry.

What do doilies, socks, and dirty dishes have to do with writing? It's a loose connection, but it's there.

Ever wonder about writing with a partner? That's what our blog is about--our method of co-writing a novel and how our partnership works.

Re: Habit: skipping parts or passages in a novel

For me it's either skipping parts or putting the book down and not picking it back up. That simple.

Re: What Do You Cut?

Typically, I try to write very tightly, so most often I come in under wordcount. When I do have to cut, it's all about "need to have" versus "nice to have". If it doesn't move the plot or develop characters, then I have to make a choice which "nice to have" pieces get cut.

Re: what is your aim of writing??

I write to entertain--I didn't realize I had a hand for humor until college, where I deliberately pushed the envelope for reactions in writing classes. After reading an essay aloud, one guy in the class asked, "Why would you write that? Who would publish it?" My reply was, "People were laughing, wer...

Re: Page Critique Friday 8/27/10

Mood is firmly set—police station, gray morning, rain, blind gargoyles, throwing the phone, mess of paperwork, and a disapproving mother. Well done. Conflict isn’t readily apparent, but alluded to by a few different things: 1) the police station, 2) his mother’s disapproval, and 3) overall mood of t...

Re: How do you get yourself to write?

Here are a couple of things that have helped me over the years. Always leave the document open--it's there waiting for you, just begging to be worked on while you putter around and do other things. When an idea strikes, head for the computer and write it down. I'm a homebody, so that's easy for me. ...

Re: Prologue to Romantic Comedy Adventure

Nick, Is your novel finished? I'd be happy to be a beta reader. I've never played that specific role, although I have been member of a critique group for many years, working with a variety of genres. I did once read a novel completely through at an author's request, but I had already seen it in piec...
