Re: Fragment Sentences

What is your opinion on fragment sentences in a query? We all know they are grammatically incomplete but if used sparingly and wisely they can help make your point and make it "pop". At least that is what my mind tells me. I am hoping you can share a quick thought on this. By the way, you may be ti...

Re: Ask Nathan

Hello Nathan, I have a question regarding the preferences of agents including yourself. In your opinion is it more appetizing if someone is querying a series with two installations already completed or if they simply query only the very first novel. The series is going to be three books in total un...

Re: Ask Nathan

So if I say post my query up here and you and others critique is it still ok to query you with it? I am finishing a completely new YA project and am planning to query you in the new year but I would love to hear opinions first because it's a one time opportunity. Do you ever pick up a query from th...

Re: Ask Nathan

Is there a way to delete a thread? I received wonderful help on my query, but don't want it posted anymore. Can you delete it for me? I did not seem to have a delete option. Have I said delete enough? Thanks! KFran Welll.. I do believe there's a way but I hope you'll consider leaving your query up ...

Re: Ask Nathan

Hey Nathan, I'm working on a comedic memoir/collection of essays. So in other words, they're common stories told through the eyes of an uncommonly handsome man. I'm almost finished and hope to query you soon. I'm currently working on a story that covers all the lowlights of my unheralded football c...

Even if this were true, would you change the story you want to tell? If the answer is yes I say fie, fie!

Re: Query critique - REVELATION

Ok after writing and rewriting the last scene of my novel (at least half a dozen times) and throwing it out the window I thought I would take a break and seek opinions on an early query attempt. So here is my first attempt. Questions: Does it read more like the back cover blurb? Or is that the gist...

Re: Pitching a "Cross-Genre" Work

But with any novel that blends genre, it's usually primarily one. And as I said in the other thread, when in doubt just go with whatever section of the bookstore it will be stocked in.

Re: Query Critique - OSAA

Dear Agent Please consider for representation my 197000 word science fiction novel, OF SHADOWS AND ANGELS. Sometimes peace costs more than war. Layne is about to find out how high that price can be, and who will pay it. Skirmishes between the ‘Cities’ and the ‘Gangs’ have occurred for centuries, fu...

Re: Ask Nathan

I'm wondering if authors get to keep merchandising rights. For instance, when I finally have a pubbed novel, and I want to sell t-shirts with my title or something on it, do I need to go through the publisher? Also, the imaging rights for the characters (what they look like). Surely publishers will...

Re: Hachette and S&S to Delay Release of E-books

I put this on the blog, then figured it would be better in here. Love the new look by the way. Nathan, I realise we can't just change the entire publishing industry ourselves, but I do see another option that no one here (or anywhere) seems to have considered. Release the e-book and the paperback a...
