Re: More eBook Talk! The Nook Library Support

The idea that e-readers aren't library compatible has to be the biggest myth going about e-books. Thanks for sharing the article!

Re: Ask Nathan

Hi Nathan, from a strictly practical point of view, I'm curious what you think the market is currently like for adult fantasy versus YA fantasy. What is the market like for new authors in these areas? For publishers? For the prospects of having a long and prosperous writing career? Thanks again. Ho...

Re: Naming Characters

I try for names that reflect how I perceive the characters, not too precisely though. Some names just have qualities that suit a character. Old timey names from the Bible, modern names, nicknames that have become given names, someone from out of the opus of literature. I once upon a time had an acq...

Re: Hand vs. Type

Yeah, count me among those who can't possibly imagine handwriting a novel. My wrist would give out by Chapter 2.

Re: Query help - Gothic

Also agree with others that this feels a little choppy. I would try smoothing it out. The first sentence also sounds like a tagline more than it does the beginning of a query to me. But that's just my own personal preference.

Re: Query Help? - SftOS

I agree with Hillsy about the first line. "Of all the things..." is a query cliche, and as a result I find the first line a tad clunky. I like the idea that she never thought she'd learn exorcism in college, but then, no one plans to learn exorcism in college, do they? I think the exorcism idea is c...

Re: Ask Nathan

Hi Nathan, Thank you for this forum; it has really been a life saver. Just a quick question: Roughly, how many people besides the author should edit the manuscript, and of those, how many of them should the author take advice from? The reason I ask is because after having several people edit my man...

Re: Ask Nathan

Nathan Just a reminder, I am very new to the submissions process. I sent my first out at the end of November. I just got a rejection after a request for the first five pages of my MS. The agent said that it didn't draw them in as they had hoped and that they were very busy and their reservations ab...

Re: Ask Nathan

Wow, Nathan, I can't believe it. This hasn't been up a week and already you have so many pages of questions. I'm almost embarrassed to be adding to it, to be honest, because I'm not certain you'll have an answer. Here goes anyway: I'm getting ready to submit (hopefully this week), and my first thre...

Re: Do you write the same genre you read?

What a great question, Mira. I usually approach the forum via the View Active Topics choice. F or some reason topics of this writing subgroup do not make it over to that display selection, so I apologize for my late arrival . (Have we only been meeting like this for a week now? Good go, Nathan!) I ...

Re: Ask Nathan

Nathan, I know there is something of a stigma against self-published works because, well, a lot of self-published works aren't very good (and for the record, no, I do not think I'm some super fantastical author; generally I scrap a project shortly after I finish it because I think it's so horrible ...
