Summer Book Recs?

I was surprised that I couldn't easily find a thread on what everyone is reading over the summer. The summer is the time of year that I read the most, and I can't be the only one. I don't really read books based on a season, except I can't read The Road by Cormac McCarthy in the winter -- it makes m...

Re: Does Defining your Genre Help or Hurt?

Everyone has some interesting comments on this, which is awesome. I forgot to put this in the original post, but of course you need a firm (or firmer) idea of your genre when you query an agent. That's really the only way you'd ever be able to narrow down your search to anyone who might be intereste...

Does Defining your Genre Help or Hurt?

Exactly what the subject says. Does defining a genre in which you write help or hurt you as a writer? This was partially inspired by the "What's Your Genre" thread that's going on right now, as I read through it and couldn't decide what my genre is. My current WiP is literary fiction. I have another...

Re: The Introduction Thread

So, uh, I'm just coming back here, so I thought I'd post in here again? It's been a while. HI GUYS. I'm Hannah, or you can call me Leonidas. Whichever. I'm seventeen, and school is out for me in two days. I'm really excited for summer. Mostly because I get to read all the books I don't have time to ...

Re: In the Land of the Super-Geniuses

I was interested by the subject of this topic, but I can't ever make myself read a big block of text -- could you space it out for us a little?

Literary Fiction WIP: First Chapter

Hi, guys. I haven't been here in a while, so I thought I would re-enter the lovely Bransforums with an excerpt of my WiP. I haven't posted work here for critique in a while, and this is my newly (as of a few weeks ago) written first chapter. It's a totally different first chapter from what I had bef...

Re: How Price-Conscious Are You When Buying Books?

Price is definitely a deciding factor when I go to the bookstore to buy books. I'm seventeen and without a job, so most of the time I go to the bookstore with a giftcard, ready to spend it all. I don't have an ereader, but I noticed when I looked at some books on my Mom's iPad that it was actually c...

Re: What medium - techno or old school?

This is a really interesting question. As a teenager, I live on the computer and in the Internet. I almost always have a Word Processor or Scrivener document open. But I always have a Google Chrome window with at least two tabs open, iTunes, and normally one other random program. I can't focus on ju...

Writing Post Secrets!

I was just looking through all the files I have from this year's NaNoWriMo and I found the "Post Secrets" I did for all of my characters. When I needed inspiration or a reward for writing however many words, I would let myself make one. I don't think there's an image-limit per post, but try not to s...
