Re: BOB - NOT the official title:) - YA dystopian *Try #2*

Only read your second try...um, I love the concept! I'm not an expert on queries, so maybe this comment will just make ya feel happy, but you honestly have an awesome story!! The last part gave me chills. I love the kid's name, the idea, the wording you used in the query. And I love wilderness's com...

Re: Do you use QueryTracker?

Man, I would hate those red faces staring back at me! I think I'll try my own system at first :)
The only part that really appealed to me anyway were the statistics (how long it takes for an agent to respond, how many they usually except...)

Re: How many POV's?

I think choosing a point of view really depends on your style, what you're comfortable with, and what your story really calls for. If you try one and just don't feel it, try another. My current WIP is told from three points of view, all in first person. I'd never done this before, but I love it. I d...

Re: Endings

Usually when I first start a WIP, it's the beginning that really hits me. From there, the middle will typically flow, but when the ending hits me... That can be anytime. Like you're saying, it bothers me too either not having or not knowing the ending and I think sometimes it makes it harder to writ...

Re: Do you use QueryTracker?

Thanks everyone! I will definitely consider QueryTracker now, because I'm sure it'll help.
I think I've got the whole querying process down and I hope everything works out. Thanks again!

Do you use QueryTracker?

I'm planning on querying towards the end of summer and have been wondering: Does QueryTracker really help? I'm not a part of the site yet, but I've looked it over and to me it seems a bit confusing. (Might just be me, though) Wondering what people's experiences have been using it and if you think it...

Re: Another curious question - how many novels have you trunked?

I'd say I've "trunked" only two for sure. One was my first novel (that wasn't seen by eyes other than mine until three years into writing it) (of course, then, I never thought I could try--in any way--for some sort of career in writing) hahah. The other was my second novel, where I thought hey, I fi...

Just a random one I thought about:

It's hard to read and stop comparing other books when you've found one that is just...amazing! :)

Re: Ever want to stop the presses?

YES. Don't you hate that? You think it's a great idea and then you start doubting yourself like crazy. Yeah, happens all the time for me. Usually, I'll just take a break or get someone else to read a bit and give me some encouragement :) But yes. I completely agree. I just try and remember that I lo...

YA Crit. Partner? :)

***EDIT-Found two! Thanks! Critique partner anyone? I've got a WIP (actually two), one being about 36,000 words right now, that I would really love to have read over. I've critiqued before, so will be just as willing to read your WIP! I'd want honest thoughts and opinions, but, of course, encouragem...

Re: Okay, be honest…how crappy is your first draft?

Ooh...mine's pretty crappy. I think the more I write, the better the first drafts become, but usually I find myself leaving sentences that need to be fixed, some grammar errors, and lots of scarce details. I think it's because I know I'll go back and fix them those countless times of rereading. For ...

Re: Open or closed endings?

This really depends for me...I think that overall closed endings are more my type of thing, but sometimes open endings are just as awesome. When you as the reader gets to decide, in some ways, what happens to the characters, I think it leaves the ending with a more fresh vibe. But, if the story has ...

Re: Music or quiet when you write?

Unless for some reason I can't...I always have to have music playing. It just helps. Especially for setting the mood or inspiration. Sometimes if I get stuck and am listening to a song...the words will just hit me, so that's always helpful :) Right now I'm trying something different. My current WIP ...

Re: The Introduction Thread

Hi! My name's KT and I've been following this blog for awhile, but just found this forum! Can't wait to learn even more and possibly get some feedback/a critique partner! I've written a few novels, but have recently been focused on a few specifically. My current WIP is at 32400 words and I think it'...
