Re: Query Revision: Euphonious Brine

Yeah, those were just examples so you could see what I was talking about and then could do your own thing. We're different people so naturally we'd have different voices and styles and something I would say wouldn't work as well in a query written by you, and vice versa. I'm just a really visual per...

Re: TRINITY, a novel

You're welcome! I was thinking, what if you started the query with the Mayans and then threaded it through your query? It's your query of course so you can do whatever you want but you could perhaps start with something like, "The Mayan Civilization fell from power centuries ago and has long been lo...

Re: TRINITY, a novel

I've been working on revisions all afternoon. I made a list of the issues that seemed to have arisen, which were: -The importance of Gabriel's research for the Maya is not explained -His link with the Maya themselves is not defined. I now realize this is a huge problem. Considering his love interes...

Re: Ask Nathan

Hi Nathan, I had a question I was hoping you could help me out with. I queried an agent and she requested a partial which I sent. I noticed though that she's one of the agents on the Diabetes Auction site offering a consultation. Would it be out of line to bid on her when I already have a partial wi...

Re: TRINITY, a novel

Dear Dream Agent: When his younger brother dies from leukemia, medical student Gabriel Clarkson is consumed with a rage for answers. Rage for answers seems an odd construction but that could just be me. Also, when I first read it I thought, "what does he need answers for? He knows how his brother d...

Re: Rejection Stats

Re: Rejection Stats

I just started out a few weeks ago so I'm still in the newbie phase. So far though, my stats are: Genre: YA Paranormal Total queries sent to date: 22 (I may have gotten a wee bit excited and sent out a few to many right away. I probably should have started with ten or fifteen at first. I did end up ...

Re: Question About Partials

I've only queried one agent so far that requests an exclusive and that one hasn't replied to me yet. This one that I sent a partial to does not request an exclusive but wants to know if anyone else is considering your manuscript at the same time. I ended up drafting a cover letter to the second agen...

Re: Query Revision: Euphonious Brine

You mentioned in a few posts that you weren't sure how to cut the query any shorter without losing important information. I noticed a few areas where you might be able to so I thought I'd point them out and then you can do whatever you want with them. If you do pare it down, depending on how much, y...

Re: Question About Partials

I'd be thrilled to get ONE offer! :) Thank you for the advice, Krista. I'll go ahead and inform the second agent (she specifically stated that, while she did not ask for exclusives, she wanted to know when other agents were also considering) and I'll leave the first alone and wait to see what happens!

Question About Partials

Hi, I just started querying about two-three weeks ago and, after eight rejections (and much chocolate) I finally got my first request for a partial yesterday, yay! I sent it out via e-mail and the agent said that there is a 10-12 week lead time on a response (this is fine but will require MUCH more ...
